Old Supreme Court and Post Office buildings as well as the building that was the seat of the old Boer Republic are overlooking the square. Pretoria's oldest restaurant is in the western corner.

Simply a bunch of not particularly impressive buildings around a small, poky square teeming with unemployed locals. Be warned hundreds of the street names in Pretoria were renamed in June 2012 (e.g. Chuch Square is no longer in Church Street, the street is called Stanza Bopape Street) so unless you have a very recent map book you will get totally lost in Pretoria.

Some local people were shocked we took a cab down here. Beautiful square and teeming with life - busy traffic and markets. We enjoyed it and our wander around the centre.

Church Square is in the heart of Pretoria with a statue of President Paul Kruger facing to the North surrounded by statues of Boer soldiers in the middle of the Square, it has significant historical value to the Afrikaner population of South Africa. The square is surrounded by buildings of architectural value dated 110 years ago. Church square' garden is maintained very well by the municipality. Unfortunately it is only safe to visit during the day although the visitor will be surrounded by lots of locals relaxing on the lawn. There is ample parking but usually 100% occupied. There is NO clean rest room facilities as what is there is used for bathing and what ever, by squatters. It is not safe to walk on Church Square during night time as there will be 100 squatters loitering and sleeping on the veranda's of nearby buildings, unless visitors go there in a large group.
