“Could not believe my eyes”
Review of Jan Celliers Park

Jan Celliers Park
Ranked #26 of 119 things to do in Pretoria
Attraction details
Reviewed December 21, 2013

I was walking down Wennning street and I was blown away by the neatness of the park. Not to mention the lawn. I didn't think in the state the country is in, there could ever be a public park like this. Really worth a visit.

Set in the affluent green suburb of Groenkloof a Park for the neighbourhood families planted with trees and Indigenous plants with a dam at the upper end and another in the middle with a stream running over little falls between the two.
There is a neighbourhood security watch looking after the Park.
It is popular for neighbours walking their dogs and Families picknicking on the lawns and keep fit enthusiasts who jog up the uphill slope and down again for strength exercises and those Botanists amongst us interested in the Indigenous species.
The two dams and the water feauture of the stream over the little falls add to the tranquility of the Park.
The locals refer to the Park as Protea or Fairy Park.
The Cycads and Giant Strelitzias are amongst the best examples in Pretoria and the one Cycad is representative of the type identified by Poet Eugene Marais.(See my Photos)
I actually only found ONE Protea plant and about to bloom so I dont know why the alternative name of Protea Park.
There is an administrative building used by the gardners during the week but no restaurant but there are toilet facilities.
On the Wenning Street edge of the Park is the entrance to a small safe Car Park (Takes about 20 Cars) which serves the whole Park.
Fortunately probably the only Park in Pretoria that does not suffer from layabouts and vagrants and thus very safe.
For beauty and tranquility highly recommended .
