Attended an engagement party with a large group at Ala Turka, the first and most obvious positive aspect is the venue itself, there has been no expense spared on a phenomenal venue. It is truly a castle and immediately sets the tone for the dinning experience. Note Ala Turka is no longer in the Irene Mall as indicated above..

Prior to attending the party; I checked out Ala Turka on Trip Advisor and thought "ok, everyone said the venues great but here comes the inevitable poor service....", this was not my experience at all...

From the time we walked in... we were greeted by ALL staff we passed with a pleasant smile, our bums were barely warm on our seats and we were offered drinks and they arrived in a flash. This continued throughout the night and our waiter was attentive up and till we left (which was after midnight). Our 7 year old joined us on the night out along with a bunch of other children, they too enjoyed the experience and even though they tried their very best to sack the castle - the staff were extremely attentive and patient and once they got tired - they were provided with blankets and slept comfortably on the couches (which allowed us to relax and enjoy the company of our friends longer than we normally would have.)

The food is and the manner in which it is served is... interesting, it is not for everyone...it is different from typical dinning and while I believe the adults all thoroughly enjoyed it... it is not completely child friendly - this is the ONLY negative (if it can be perceived as negative) aspect and perhaps something Ala Turka should consider.

All in all it was a GREAT evening - Phenomenal venue, great service, tasty food, great entertainment (Belly Dancers) and I recommenced that anyone looking for a break from conventional dinning and decor should book and go...

The new venue for Ala Turka is wonderful, great setting and surroundings but unfortunately that is where it ends. The service was non-existant. Firstly we received only one trainee waitress at our table who visited us every half an hour or so to take wrong orders. After drinks we were served starters, which we did not order and were later charged for. Our menus did not arrive and after two hours I had to get up and fetch the menus myself. Food arrived 3 hours after we sat down after which we were shouted at by the owner as it was our fault that the orders were wrong, taking into acccount we had not ordered food and were still waiting for menus after the startesr were served. A couple next to us waited for an hour for a witer to assist them only to get up and leave for no service. I will HIGHLY NOT recomment Ala Turka for groups larger than 1 as the restaurant can not handle large groups and they are unable to deal with problems. Never never again.

Yes, Ala Turka moved to a new venue so it seems exciting to go and dine in a Castle. Only to be let down by management and staff. If you have time to wait 2 hours for your food and find it entertaining to have management shout at you when you complain about it, this place is for you. Non existing service on a Friday night left us waiting hours for our food and drinks. One would think that the owner of the establishment would listen to our story, but it turned out that she was rude and not at all accommodating. She pointed out that it was our fault that we were waiting so long for our food due to miscommunication from our side. Really? I would not recommend this place to anyone and would not set foot on their premises EVER again!!!

Ala Turka is a wonderful venue. Rich, exotic decor, comfortable floor cushions and gazebos or table seating, oriental carpets and lanterns. Delicious, spicy food and interesting new dishes. Belly dancers entertaining with fire and sabers and scarves. Professional friendly service. That is how we came to know Ala Turka and what we were expecting when we booked our meal.

Ala Turka has now moved to a new venue, a castle. How exciting! But please, don't hold your breath.

The greeting was quite friendly. My ten-year old son was amazed by the setting and the Turkish knives on display against the wall. But from there all went sour. We probably had the worst waitress in Gauteng. We had to fill our glasses ourselves, the small table never had enough space because the dishes weren't cleared on time. The food is not the same, either. Not terrible, but the flavors were somewhat bland. The meat was dry, and the sauces were a bit watery. I always thought one cannot make a flop of baclava, but I was proven wrong. Dry, overdone, minimum nuts.

However, two things really ruined my whole weekend: Firstly, we waited over an hour for our main course and 30min for dessert. Another waiter brought our bill after we asked our own waitress twice. We arrived at 18h30 and only left at 22h00. Secondly, when we left, a very bombastic manager bellowed at us as we left: "Did you have a great time with us!?!" I answered "No, we didn't", kept on walking. He very loudly commented to his companions at the bar something about how people cannot complain if they didn't want to talk to him. Seriously?

No, sir, I don't want to complain. I just never, ever, ever will eat at Ala Turka again!
