I called Eyrie Country Estate in October 2012 and spoke with John, who assured me that his Observatoy Garden Flat would suit our needs. We were a party of 5 in the area for a wedding. I specifically asked for twin beds in one room & a double bed in the other, with sleeper couch for my young daughter. We paid over R2000 deposit. When we arrived on the 8th of November, we found the 'guesthouses' to be shabby-looking buildings strewn with dirty laundrey and linen lying on the uncut grass in the rain. It appeared as though people were living there on a permanent basis and there were broken toys and miscellaneous clutter lying everywhere. We were met by John, who led us to the 'garden cottage' - a squalid and badly built outbuilding conversion. There was water everywhere due to leaking seals, obviously dirty linen on the beds, which looked as though they were just slept in and not changed, moldy curtains hanging skewly from the windows and a view of a weedy, overgrown garden - which John called the 'developing bird sanctuary'. The place stank. We demanded a refund, which was denied, and left in disgust. John threatened to sue me if I put my complaints online. We left more than R2000 out of pocket, with nowhere to stay on the eve of my stap-daughters wedding. AVOID THIS MESS!
