“A good stop to stretch your legs and enjoy the views”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

If you are doing a tour of the City of Pretoria then this will be a good place to stop and walk around the terraced gardens and enjoy the views of the city. The buildings are impressive to look at but unfortunately you cannot get close enough to appreciate the details.

“Drive past”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Visits to the Union Buildings are limited to the outside. The choices are to stop or park in Church Street (now called Stanza Bopape) and walk over the lawns or drive and stop on the upper road, New Government Avenue, just below the building.

“Beauty obscured by Fear”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Union Buildings are one of the most beautiful monuments in Pretoria that has been "stolen" from the visitors as a result of unfounded fear. Sir Herbert Baker did a splendid work of art and years ago when fear was supposed to be more prevalent in South Africa you could walk around in and around the building to admire the beauty of this piece of architecture. There was even a Restaurant that you could visit and experience the ambiance of the building when it was lit up during the night.
This unfortunately is now hidden away from the visitors and they can only watch from afar and thereby lose a lot of the wonder of this magnificent monument.
The gardens however and its terraces are still available for visitors to stroll through and experience the beauty thereof.

“Very impressive”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

This was the first attraction I visited in Pretoria and I must admit it looked better than in the photographs. Walking across the lovely park it cannot fail to impress. There are good views to be had from the terraces too. It is a pity you cannot walk round the buildings.
