“Take a picnic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

We went over Easter weekend just to drive by and discovered the beautiful gardens full of families and friends roaming them, many people were having picnics. We desperately wished we had known this--it would have been a beautiful picnic location. The building architecture was gorgeous and parking was easy since it was a holiday weekend. It's a great place to take some very pretty pictures.

the lawns are splendid, beautiful English gardens and the architecture is majestic! paring might be a challenge on major public holidays and nice spot for a days outing with a brown bag!

“Visually Effective Building and Gardens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

The ideal way to see the buildings is to start from Church Street, check out Louis Botha statue then walk up the steps viewing the extensive gardens then you can get the full visual effect of Herbert Bakers building

“Majestic buildings in the heart of Pretoria”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

The Union Buildings are in the heart of the capital close to the home of the President called Mandlambandlopfu (previously called Libertas)( The name means "the dawn of a new era".) These buildings are testament to the co operation between the Dutch and English settlers in the early years and the architecture by the famous Sir Herbert Baker showcases his early travels to Greece, Italy and Egypt with an eclectic mix of styles. The gardens overlook the city and are a mass of colour, often used by wedding parties for photos. Security does not allow for entrance up the steps onto the forecourt, but you can walk on the roadway and steps down to the gardens. The buildings are used by the government cabinet ministers as their offices and the office of the President is also situated there.
