My boyfriend and I (from London) stayed here for the last three nights of our 15 day trip of SA. When we arrived we were told that we were being upgraded (for no reason at all) to one of the suites. We had a separate living area from the bathroom and bedroom, and a balcony facing Table Mountain. We felt very lucky and loved the room. The gym is good. The pool and lounge area is nice. Very randomly they have two guinea fowl running around the hotel, which was really funny to see. There are 2 or 3 restaurants but make sure you have the seven course tasting menu in Myoga. Amazing value for money and so so tasty – great food, amazing price! Because the hotel is slightly out of town, the hotel has a “transfer” service to the Waterfront. We were expecting a mini bus to take us to the Waterfront but instead we were driving in an Mercedes with water in the backseat pull out draw! The driver was lovely as were all the staff we came across in the hotel. The gardens are also great – don’t forget to wak the gardens. All in all I would definitely recommend.

We stayed in the Vineyard for 9 days in November 2011 and it was a very pleasant experience .Check in was swift and welcoming .Our garden rooms were just wonderful with a balcony each .Each balcony was wreathed in flowering bouganvillia and grapevines laden with fruit. The view was spectacular out to the landscaped gardens and looking straight at Devils Peak Mountain which towered over us.It was wonderful for us to see the sunshine spilling into our rooms every morning . ALL THE STAFF WERE unfailingly polite and helpful-they are a credit to the hotel and a great asset. The Vineyard Hotel is set in beautiful gardens and grounds with well planned hard landscaping incorporating lovely peaceful and interesting walks .Our rooms 126/7 were very comfortable with exc temperature control which ran surprisingly quietly.Breakfast was a buffet in The Square and was exc with gorgeous fresh fruit -sliced pineapple mango, guavas, mixed fruit salad and mixed berries and delicious yoghourt. You could also avail of a cooked breakfast served by the polite waiting staff
scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, eggs benedict etc as well as a selection of cold meats and cheese, porridge, muesli cornflakes and other cereals, seeds and nuts
Evening meals were either in The Square which seemed transformed at night with soft lighting and piano-playing or you could have bar food in the spacious and comfortable bar .Another alternative was The Myoga Restaurant in The Hotel which has an exc 7 course tasting menu with acompanying specially chosen wines .Waiters here wer v helpful with advice abt choice of dishes -they were patient too !The Hotel is conveniently situated near the main highway leading out of the city towards the attractions of Cape Point Fish Hoek ,Muizenberg,Kalk Bay,Simonstown and THE PENGUIN COLONY AT BOULDERS BAY.kIRSTENBOSCH National Gardens on th elower slopes of Table Mountain was close by too as are the Cricket Grounds at The Oval .We went up Table Mountain by cablecar on a warm sunny, clear day to take in the amazing views A shuttle bus whisks you to Cavendish Square -a modern shopping centre but this is actually within an easy stroll of The Vineyard .We hope to return next yr to this gorgeous, friendly, quiet and peaceful hotel .The Hotel Manager Mr Davies also very kindly left a bottle of Champagne anda silver photo frame in my btothers and sister-in-laws room for his Wedding Anniversary .

Room Tip: garden rooms have amazing views .

Having arrived on an overnight flight it was delightful to be welcomed so warmly at this lovely hotel with stunning views. Our room overlooked Table Mountain, the grounds too are stunning and our 3 day stay was wonderful. The food was excellent and I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking Table Mountain

This was my fifth visit to the Vineyard and wouldn't wish to stay anywhere else in Cape Town. This time, a 14 night stay was for sightseeing and to watch the cricket Test match at Newlands which is a 10 minute walk away.

My overnight flight got in at 6.15am and through the hotel I arranged to be collected by their house but independent tour company, Jarat Tours. Certainly not cheap at a fixed R430 but a lovely car and an efficient pick up - bearing in mind the early morning Cape Town traffic, a metered taxi would probably have been as much.

My Mountain View room - 326 had a a wonderful view of the mountain ( not surprisingly) and of course the stunning hotel grounds - views you never tire of even in a long stay. Do look out for the huge hotel tortoises that roam the grounds - not sure how many there are but at least three - they have hotel ID discs on their backs!

If you want an ultra modern hotel with a luxurious pristine room and a computer pad that opens the curtains etc then this hotel may not be for you. If you want a hotel with history, character, charm, elegance and ambience then try the Vineyard. The staff are incredibly helpful and it must be a positive that a good number of them have been there many years. Seriously it is quite touching to be recognised by one of the waitresses after a couple of years absence. A special mention for Kristine, Porche and Cheryl who run the Guest Relations desk in the foyer - nothing too much trouble but why don't they have a sign saying Guest Relations?!

Internet access is free in the little computer room - you simply enter your surname and room number - printer available with the two PC's.

Plenty of space for clothes in your room, a good writing desk, 2 easy chairs and a flat screen television that gets among others 3 sports channels, BBC World and Sky News - UK. The bathroom is incorporated in the room but within completely enclosed glass walls - this may not suit everyone but not a problem to me. Perhaps the room lighting is a bit gloomy.

The main restaurant is The Square where breakfast is served- cooked breakfast can either be A La Carte or self service. The fresh pineapple is wonderful and look out for the orange juice machine - you know it is fresh! Weather permitting from I think 8am, breakfast is also served in the garden lounge. Do try the Myoga Restaurant which is in the hotel building but run independently - do book - frequented by locals, as is The Square at lunch time.

The grounds in my view are fantastic - about 5 acres with the river Liesbeck on the boundary and plenty of places to sit and admire the views. I could easily spend a day, or two in the grounds just relaxing. There is a 20 metre outdoor pool and a gym plus small cafe and ladies hairdressers.

It is true that the hotel is in the suburb of Newlands and without a car getting around could perhaps be difficult. I had my hire car delivered to the hotel (for a fee) - plenty of hotel parking in the underground car park. It took me 20 minutes from the hotel by my hire car to be parked up in a V & A (Waterfront) car park - 6 hours car parking -R20 (£1.90). The hotel is a couple of minutes from the M3 which takes you north into the city and south down via the Indian or Atlantic Ocean to Cape Point (Cape of Good Hope) which is about an hour away driving very slowly.

If you go to Cape Point and are reasonably fit, do take the stairway down to Dias Beach - one of the most magical beaches in the world. On the way back from Cape Point, take the Atlantic route - Scarborough beach is stunning - never mentioned in the guide books and the road north to Misty Cliffs has absolutely fantastic views. The world renowned Kirstenbosch Gardens are only 10 minutes from the hotel - c 1.5 miles - admission R40 (£3.50) - another place to spend all day. If you don't want to do Table Mountain then go to Signal Hill. So whilst the hotel is not at the Waterfront, if you have a car then I consider it's postion is better and please tell me any other Cape Town hotel with better grounds.

The upmarket Cavendish shopping centre is about a 5/7 minute walk away and you can get virtually everything you need here - the Woolworths supermarket is excellent. I felt completely safe walking around Newlands, Cape Town city centre and the peninsula resorts. As anywhere you have to apply common sense and I didn't go out at night - seek local guidance on this.

This is still my favourite hotel anywhere in the world for the reasons already stated. If I could only ever have one more holiday it would be here in a Mountain View room!

Room Tip: Have a Mountain View room if you are able to - they are a good bit more but worth it in my opinion...

We have been upgraded to a Junior suite with patio. Very nice and clean, I think it was renovated recently. You enter the hotel from one side and when you go out on the other side you are in another world. Nice garden with lot's of trees, flowers, a little river, nice places where to sit and relax. And of course the wonderful view of the table mountain. The breakfast is served in a inner courtyard with a glass sunroof. 3 turtles and guinea fowls are the pets of this hotel. The service is very good, we had some problems with the internet and they sent a IT specialist right away. They have a shuttle to cape town, which is cheaper then a taxi.

Room Tip: to the side of the table mountain
