I went to Varisty in 70's in UCT and 'Forries' was a fav wateringhole. Fantastic venue with outside seating in good weather and plenty space with fireplace inside. Since returning to CT 4 yrs ago, I go back from time to time to watch a rugby match or similar. Has great atmoshere and lots of screens etc. They have recently spent a small fortune renovating/extending kitchen, moving pizza oven, extending bar area etc. It now has improved service esp when busy, and new moveable roof outside is great addition!
But food remains average with some dishes above average. But prices are highish for pub food with omelette (which is good size) costing R72. Beer gone up from R19, to R22, and now R25 is limited period.
In summary: A great place to meet mates and watch a match, or drink under the trees. But better eating houses/better value nearby. Pity coz Forries is a super venue with parking etc and current manager Justin does try to please.
