Description: Barristers is an institution in the Southern suburbs of Cape Town. Having been founded in 1980, Barristers is in the heart of Newlands Village and is an old favorite of locals and international visitors alike. From the deck which looks out over the village circle, through the lively pub and into the welcoming Grill and Tudor Rooms, we offer good old fashioned values at reasonable prices. Barristers has a comprehensive menu, extensive range of draught beers and a huge wine list. Good Food, Great Wine, Warm Friends is a motto we believe in emphatically.

“Great South African wine selection; menu needs more inspiration, but a pleasant place to have a meal.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

There is a bar attached to the restaurant that seems to attract much of the attention, but the advantage is that you can move in and out as you please. Perhaps start with drinks at the bar to get a sense of wonderfully-accented Capetonian chatter, then settle into the restaurant itself for an evening of a largely Mediterranean-inspired dinner. The main attraction is the great collection of local wines.

“Best value for money lunch in the city!”

Great value for money lunch menu - R40.00 for a variety of menu items. Portions are substantial and delicious. Service is pleasant and owner always on duty.

“Not on my list to re visit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012 via mobile

Went off with the family, had been there before and had an ok meal. This time it was below par , my wife ordered Kingklip rest of us steaks. After a long wait about 20 mins the manager arrived and informed us he had just "sold" the last Kingklip , now must be a huge delay between management and staff, well my wife settled for the sole. Eventually our main arrived only to find the sole off, but we had to wait about 15 mins for the waiter to arrive to tell her, the smell really put us all off our meals , my son had prawns with his steak that he removed as he was worried that they were off! Manager arrived and said he would remove it from the bill. Great two strikes on the fish. Well I suppose do not eat fish in a steakhouse, the rest of us had very average steaks, service was really slow and non attentive. This is probably better known for the pub than a great steakhouse, what a pity but my hard earned cash is not going back to Barristers!

I really like their evening menu, not too fond of the pub menu, but you get real value for money and the foods great!

“Lovely bar, little too busy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2012

Dropped in with a customer for a glass of wine, due to the very large conference group at the nearby hotel the bar suddently became jammed, no fault of the bar just bad timing.

Bar is very popular, good selection of beers and wines available, nice sitting area outside to watch the world go by...
