On first morning the water in bathroom stopped working just as I started having a shower. We were supposed to have a bottle of water every day but they forgot on 2nd day. The safe didn't work and although they tried to fix it we were reluctant to use it. Room very dark and stone floors made feet/socks dirty. Staff in bar very abrupt and not very welcoming. More of a conference/family hotel than a couples hotel. Wouldn't recommend it.

Housekeeping issues mentioned have been actioned accordingly and we have implemented an extensive training programme for our Rooms Department for 2013. You will definitely find improvements on your next stay with us. We are also pleased to announce the appointment of our highly experienced Rooms Division Manager, Carli Nel, as of the 02nd January 2013.
In regard to the lack of water in your accommodation I would like to mention that indeed we did experience municipal water problems on the day in question, and such was unfortunately beyond our control. We apologise for this incident

This is a very spread-out property that tends to get a little confusing (network of little paths!) but it is home to everything one could possibly want:
- spacious luxury room (for very little surcharge)
- welcome lolly and bottled water
- very clean
- free wireless internet
- gym, pool and entertainment area
- attentative staff
- excellent breakfast buffet
- bistro and restaurant also on-site

Room Tip: luxury room costs very little extra!

I went there for a business meeting. There are I think 9 wings (villages as they call them) in the resort. My room was at the end of one of the villages.

It gives a nice village sort of setting - everything seemed so eco-friendly. The walk round the resort through the various villages was very calm and peaceful. Went to the edge of the resort where there were a couple of horses grazing on their own. No rider around.

Carnivore, a speciality non-veg restaurant is the highlight of the resort with a lot of people coming to visit it. The Hall of Kings on the way to Carnivore is amazing. Took some pics sitting on the throne of kings! :P The reception area is well set with so many old time suitcases lined up against the wall. A huge mirror at the reception is set so that when you look inside it, it seems like a life size portrait of yourself. A lot of memorabilia stuff is also available at the shop at the reception.

It is too dark in the night, with very less lighting around. So it was spooky to go to Carnivore after 7 pm for dinner. And the resort is too big, so by the time I got familiar with all the walks through the various villages (three days), it was time to head back home.

Muldersdrift is further off from Joburg, so the resort was secluded. Of course since it was a business meeting with dinner arrangements as well, had no time to visit Joburg till the last day. But since it is away from civilization, a taxi trip back to Joburg is on the expensive side (no readily available transport - have to book a cab from hotel.) A couple of us took a full day cab to go visit the Cradle of Human Civilization, Lion's Park, Joburg (Top of Africa) & Constitution Hill including Number Four Jail (where Gandhi was imprisoned in Africa) before going to the airport - It sure seemed more reasonable to us to site see as well as go to the airport.

I was really looking forward to a short get away with my fiance and thought Misty Hills would be the right choice but I was wrong. I don't know where they got their stars from but our room was just horrible! It was unbelievable small and dark, from the window we could see the place where they put their rubbish, the bathroom was very small as well and the shower was really not nice at all.
The hotel area is nice with all the plants and little pathways, the bar is also nice with a pool table and obviously it is very nice especially for tourists to have the Carnivore Restaurant on the property.
The staff was friendly but not very well trained. There was a problem when we checked out and it seemed like the guy at the reception didn't really know what he is doing.

All in all it could be such a nice place if they improved their rooms. What I saw was definitely not 4 star!

We thank you for your valued comments and constructive criticism on your accommodation experienced during your stay at Misty Hills Country Hotel, Conference Centre & Spa in February 2012.

We try to exceed each guest’s expectations every time they check into our hotel and the comments we receive from our valued guests, be it complimentary or otherwise, are of utmost importance to us to improve on any shortcomings we may have.

I would like to express my sincere regret that we did not meet- or exceed your expectations during your stay. I see that you were booked into one of our few budget rooms, which are smaller than our other categories of rooms in the hotel. I would like the opportunity to show you around and upgrade you to one of our large rooms overlooking our Lilly ponds & lush gardens on your next visit.

Many thanks for posting your comments.

The best part of misty hills is the location, 20 minutes out of Johannesburg and you are in the country. The worst part is the hotels layout, it seems just too big for a romantic getaway! I'm sure it's great for big conferences. Room service just take too long

I didnt actually stay in the hotel but went to the spa for an afternoon. The price was very reasonable & the spa was lovely. I will say however that the sauna & steam room could so with being replaced. They are unusable in my opinion,
