Errol Gobey, maitre chef de cuisine, presides over this haven of sensory and culinary delight in the country north-west of Johannesburg. The impressive belle epoque slash baroque decor is complemented by excellent cuisine, service and presentation. A meal at Bellgables is truly an extraordinary experience!

We eat out a lot, but this restaurant is really 'wow'. Great decor, excellent food and service, we'll definately be back. I highly recommend.

This is the most fabulous restaurant if you want to escape the hustle of the big city and spend a few hours in the over the top sumptuousness of Bellgables! I have now been three times and love it. From the moment you are welcomed at the gates, you know you a somewhere special. If you go at night, the way to the restaurant from the car park is lit up by candles. The staff are very welcoming and you will be completely overwhelmed on your first visit when you take in the  interior decoration. It is unique and very special. The whole experience is very relaxed. We took our apéritifs ( Kir Royal,  to be recommended) and wandered outside round the pool and into the garden. We were greeted there by flights of white-eyes chirping and flitting from tree to tree.
The food is utterly delicious and served in the most inventive ways.
I love it here, well worth the journey out of town. Go for Sunday lunch and make a day of it!

I recently visited Johannesburg for the first time in many years...to catch up with old friends...regardless of the the joy that may have brought it still remains...at least for me...'The big smoke', and just as i thought there was no solace amongst this chaos, i remembered Gorgeous Bellgables from years ago.

As before, the atmosphere, service and cuisine came together perfectly. Accompanied by a superb wine selection. Our lunch was beautifully executed by Chef/Patron, Errol and his team. The waiters define, understated attentive service. The afternoon ended off with a welcome chat with Errol, and decadent desserts which even got me scrapping the plates for the final morsels...and i generally don't do dessert. Anyhow should you find yourself in a moment when the city of gold lacks luster....Take a short trip out to the country and rediscover your senses.

Thank you once again, Erroll & Harry...for consistently remaining my perfect recharging unit, amongst the chaos...hope to see you in Hermanus in the near future.

I agree about the dirt road but what a welcome! Someone waiting to open the gates and then personally escorting us to our table was a big plus. The setting was sumptuously over the top and we loved our tucked away table adorned with buddhas and candelabra and silverware. The menu was a delight- 4 pages of starters! The food was delicious - generous sauces, fall off the bone lamb shank and springbok to die for! My two gripes were the undercooked carrots and the disappointing cream in the irish coffee. The service was perfect - friendly, welcoming and attentive but not obsequious. Would have liked to have seen the maitre d though. Quite expensive but well worth it for a special occasion.
