“Excellent visit to Cradle of Humankind”
Reviewed June 28, 2014 via mobile

Stayed in the Presidential Suite, however all suites had outstanding qualities and complete privacy. Suites are a little quirky but in a good and stylish way. We went in winter and the suite had two very chic fireplaces. Loved being on a game estate and the hippo sounds at night really gave it that African Vibe. Dinner was a wonderful tasting menu and was well above average. The wine pairing was also a nice touch. The breakfast was absolutely mind blowing. Also a tasting menu but really sublime. Will DEFINATELY return as it's just 40 min from Jo'burg. Also enjoyed an afternoon at the new CradleMall just down the road.

My gf and i went to Forum Homini for 1 night on a Saturday mid winter for our anniversary. The drive from JHB is easy and not too far took us +/-1h with traffic.

Room:
The Room is spacious, very comfortable, bath huge, 2 showers, bed massive, was cold but the fire place worked like a charm. Cannot complain at all about the room.

Food:
The Roots restaurant is fine dining for both dinner and breakfast. The price is included in your Room but too be honest it is not my thing. Dinner was 6 courses and is very nice but i would have prefered something a little more simple and hearty in the middle of winter. This goes for breakfast as well, great view from the deck but then you have these small fancy potions which again i would have preferred a buffet. Saying that the food is very good just not for me. When i go back i will ask for a room excluding food because there are restaurants in the area close by to eat at.

The restaurant service though is excellent and world class, this goes for front desk and all staff actually.

Massage:
We had a massage in the room before dinner and too be honest was really not good and expensive so i would not order again when i go back.

Although, the fire places are nice and the blackets they give you are good, i think i would prefer o go here in summer as they have a great outdoor pool and you can go for a walk around the estate.

All in all though as a couple it is a great place to go for a weekend although a little pricey i think worth a look.

Thank you very much for your detailed review. Always very nice to receive comments and ideas, then we can work with that and try to improve where possible. Sorry to hear about your massage experience we did follow up with the staff involved.

Please do come back in the summer - always very nice to enjoy one of our (South African) cheese platters with a cocktail, lying in the sun!

Very quiet and relaxing with excellent service and sublime food. Give yourself plenty time for the meals as they are served in courses which takes a while. We attended a food and wine paring evening - unfortunately the wine was a bit disappointing.

We stayed at Forum Homini as part of a rewards trip. The rooms are unique in every aspect and I love the decor. Little extra's like the complimentary snacks were quite a surprise as with most 5 star establishments you need to pay for every single little thing. The rooms are comfortable and spacious and the shower to die for. The bath in the sitting room is a bit of an awkward design element for me as I needed to constantly move my toiletries from shower to bath.

We had dinner and breakfast at the Roots restaurant which was a wine and dine experience of note. However, it later on felt a bit dragged out and one can only eat and drink so much.

Forum Homini is an absolute must for that once in a lifetime experience.

Fantastic service, beyond incredible fine dining food and generally wonderful in every way! We took the last minute special deal and was absolutely worth the cost. What a wonderful break away from real life, I cannot rave enough about every aspect of our stay. Even the breakfast was one of the most memorable and perfect meals I've ever eaten. Can't wait to go back.

Dear Kelly,

Thank you for your review. Whether our guests make use of the last minute special or not...we aim to give the best service to all our guests at all times.

So nice to hear that you enjoyed breakfast also. I hope that you had a glass of sparkling wine?

We are situated so close to the city but yet it feels if you are hours away from it when you arrive here in this quiet, peaceful and relaxed environment. ( Ideal for romantic couples to break away don't you think? Regards

We stayed here for one night as a couple for our wedding anniversary. This is a beautiful and secluded location. Very peaceful and away from the city noise.

The interior of the rooms are faultless and so modern, we stayed in one of the presidential suites. Had a bath in the room, shower with two shower heads and you can open the shower doors to a secluded garden.

Also you have a gas fire place in your room with a small sitting area. Tea and coffee facilities and snacks with mini bar. Robe and slippers, all the bathroom amneties you can think of and some more.

Lovely bushveld view and table and chairs outside on the stoep to sit and relax. We also had dinner at the Roots restaurant which is a fine dining experience of sorts.

Would recommend this place to anyone I know.

This delightful little hotel is set in a wildlife estate minutes away from the city rush. We stayed over on a Friday evening and was lucky enough that it was one of their wine pairing evenings at Roots. The onsite restaurant offers one of the best food experiences I've ever had. It was a 5 course adventure and worth every cent. The rooms are lovely and everything you expect from a 5 star establishment.
