I have now stayed twice at Danfela, and will return, because if you have to go to Midrand, this lodge offers great value in a convenient location, 2km from the Johannesburg-Pretoria main highway, 5 minutes from the centre of Midrand, and yet is as quiet as anyone could wish.
The Eco theme is carried into the rooms. Beds are hung about with mosquito nets arranged as if they were for a four-poster. Washing sinks, shower floors are unwashed cement with round, white pebbles set in them. Rails for shower curtains are varnished sticks, supported on logs. The decor is earth brown and clay red. My latest bedroom was tiny ("Last time you were here, we were able to upgrade you - I'm afraid this time we are full" said my hostess apologetically), but warm and had everything except a bedside light. The breakfast was great, too - huge glasses of fresh fruit juice, a good selection of cereals, lots of different breads and rolls, some great cold meats and cheeses, and lashings of fresh coffee.
So the TV channels were the ghastly four, and the internet connection was down, but such things are small fry when the really important things like a soft, warm bed and a good hot shower and a happy welcome and farewell are really what makes a stay worthwhile.More
