As a business traveler I see a new hotel almost every week. My standard is not to go below 4 stars, but then again I noticed that hotel stars mean different things to different countries. I read the other (kind of negative) review on Trip Advisor and was a bit anxious about my decision to book this hotel anyway. Coming back from my trip I have to say that I didn’t regret it for a second! When I arrived I noticed that our travel agent messed up my booking. As a result I stood at the reception desk after a 12 hour flight with a cancelled reservation and no room available in the fully booked hotel. I explained my silly case to the staff and the level of empathy was tremendous! They gave me a free upgrade to an executive room, which was the only available room at that point in time. There was no reason other than empathy why they should have done it. And all that with a big smile! I have visited the bar, the restaurant and used room service and every time I had an excellent service and decent quality of food and drinks. The room was OK and since I had some trouble using the water temperature control in the bathroom the staff proposed promptly to walk me to the room to show me how it worked. It is true that the sound insulation is a bit poor. Personally I was not really disappointed about that, as what else could I do than get up and have an early breakfast on the terrace, as starting at about 5:30 AM the sun is shining from a clear blue sky at 20 degrees Celcius? Also there is plenty of staff during the day, so I’m sure if you need help with your luggage or anything else (because of any disability) you will find prompt help if you would ask. Bear in mind that this is South-Africa and not New York! The people here definitely are working hard to deliver you that unique experience during your stay, however based on their nice and easy way of living and not looking to stressfully and proactively exceed your expectations. I will definitely come back to Midrand shortly and without ANY doubt I will book this hotel again!!
