“Excellent Doreal'e Grande”
Reviewed March 2, 2014 via mobile

Have stayed here approximately 5 times in the last 8 years(Doreale Grande and Metcourt), I have always enjoyed my stay and both the staff and the hotel are excellent. With plenty of restaurants and the casino a short walk from all of the hotels in the complex, very comfortable rooms, excellent security, you couldn't ask for more.

This is an outstanding top shelf hotel. Expensive but you get what you pay for. Came here after visiting several tougher spots in Africa for a few days. It is an oasis! Great food, lots of choices, attached to a casino and small mall so there is lots to do. Rooms are spotless, super plush robes and towels, there are about 10 pillows and even a pillow menu. This is the place to stay in SA if you need to be in Kempton or near the airport.

“Very nicely decorated”
Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

A group of 5 of us decided to investigate the Emperors Casino.
Really nicely laid out, the Casino has some really different decorative distinctive areas & is really nice quite a bit superior to the Tribal Casinos in the USA.
Slots are not overwhelming stacked together, room around gaming tables & a couple of discrete bars.
There is a completely separate area for smokers.
We did not have time to gamble but did stay for a drink & walked around.

“Bad experience”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

Having visited a lot of casino hotels across SA frankly the experience @ emperor's is quite poor.

the interiors are smaller shabbier copy of Monte's which is an Italian city themed. To add, the theme keeps going forward and back on Italian, Greek and Egyptian confusion through out the place. I had a terrible experience at the casino tables where they have not mentioned the minimum and max limits to bet on with the max bets on roulette being 1 : 10 ratios! the same is quite low compared all other big casinos in Johannesburg. It's only after you lose a bit of money and cant increase your bet you realize the same.

the food court is average with only 3 restaurants which is the smallest one I have seen at any place. then we went to an Indian fine dine (taste of Mumbai) inside which told us 5 mins after we ordered that few dishes were not available. One wasted evening for my family.

“Ghastly tacky place”
Reviewed February 22, 2014

I'm not a gambler and went because my hotel was in the complex. It is a truly horrible, gaudy, fake place but , hey, there were plenty of sad people on the fruit machines so I guess they were enjoying themselves
