“Nice and very clean luxury hotel - a bit overpriced though”
Reviewed January 1, 2010

We stayed for a couple of nights. it is near the airport , about 4-5 minutes drive. They have a shutle bus which connects it with the airport every 20 mins - don't spend 80Rand (about 8€) in a taxi, not worth it..
It belongs to the Emperors casino and hotels area which includes the casino and 3 other hotels - the best is d'oreale. In general everything is great though the main problem of all of the South Africa's resorts (untrained staff and instability of the quality of services) are here for sure.
The location is near the aiport but far from the city (20-30 mins drive without trafic) and far from everything. but the place has it all - restaurants, casino, bars, cafeterias etc lioke vegas style hotels but not as good - there's nothing like vegas..
You have all the facilities you can imagine, thge rooms are big enough, very clean but if you're going to stay for more than 2 nights you'll get bored i think - i did at least...

We stayed a the D'Oreal for the last night of our honeymoon before flying home. The hotel is conveniently close to the airport with a free shuttle that leaves every 20 minutes. The buffet breakfast was also very good. The food at the restaurant tasted nice.

That's where the good stuff ends.

The reception staff were pretty shambolic. The person who checked us in had on his system that we were honeymooners but didn't really do anything nice to mark the occasion which is fair enough. More concerningly he told us that the restaurant was fully booked and suggested that we go to Nandos in the food court nearby. We then went to the restaurant who told us they had plenty of space. Did they think we didn't look smart enough to go to their restaurant??

They also forgot to take my credit card details and kept us waiting for 10 minutes because the person responsible was busy but wanted to take them personally, even though his colleagues were free. The service at the restaurant was shambolic. They had some kind of meal and wine event going on and decided to suspend service between the first and second courses for 45 minutes because one of the tables hadn't arrived. The next morning housekeeping showed up at 8.30 even though we were checking out later that day.

Our room itself was ok but small and smelled of smoke - we weren't given any option to have smoking or not.

The spa is well advertised but it costs 200 rand per person extra just to use the facilites.

The building itself is monumentally tacky. The emperor's palace has been done in an ancient rome meets las vegas style but really lacks sophistication.

Overall the Oreal isn't a terrible option but there's no way it can call itself 5 star. If it wasn't just a place to sleep before we came home I'd be a lot more disappointed.

had one week in Dóreale Grande hotel. which was fabulous. excellent services starting in the morning with excellent breakfast with a nice view to thew garden. omelett is great over there. fresh food - clear rooms - felt safe - also "all around" was very good. The extra Limo uplift from the Airport is a perfect service. Also a interessting possibility to join the wellness area with massage etc / so i had a excellent stay in this hotel.

This five star property is one of three hotels at the Emperor's Palace complex. They also have what they consider to be a three star and four star hotel. There is a free shuttle from the airport every 20 minutes and hopefully they will now drop the guests at the five star hotel first instead of the other way around. The complex is a mini Las Vegas Venetian, but affords a choice of restaurants and shopping without going all the way out to Sandton when transfering overnight. The rooms were well appointed and the desk manager , Gottfried, accommodating . We ordered the anniversary package , but the first desk clerk thought breakfast in the room was not included......which it was.In general, I find the desk clerks not to be aware of the amenities in the packages, so you have to be persistent and vigilant. The breakfast showed up as an extra on the bill, but was immediately removed when reminded. The halls smelled of fresh paint and needed to be ventilated which they did. the dinner which was included at their restaurant was moved too Tribes in the Mall because there was a special event their restaurant. It was quite pleasant even though not what was promised. in general I found the experience quite ok and to be a reasonable value compared to others in the area.
