We were booked by our agent in this hotel and charged 4500ZAR (30000INR or 550USD) per night. I checked expedia and found the rate to be 2000ZAR (12000INR or 220USD). The over charging completely wrecked my stay because my expectations went up accordingly. For the price, the room was way below average. The shuttle to the airport was nice and runs every 20 mins from behind the Intercontinental at the OR Tambo airport. The staff was nice, the pool is amazing and so is the garden behind the hotel. If you book in advance and get a rate closer to 200USD it is fantastic and recommended to everyone wanting to stay near Jo'Burg airport.

We were in JNB for one night to get our connecting flight. This hotel is perfect for a short stopover. Shuttle to and from the airport was reliable. We even used the shuttle to go back to the airport and catch the Gautrain into Sandton. The rooms are clean and look like they have been recently refurbished. The pool and hotel gardens are stunning. The lobby reminds you of a mini vegas style hotel. Breakfast was really good. There are multiple choices for dinning at the casino. We frequently come back to SA to see family and we will definately stay here again.

We arrived in Jo'berg and wanted somewhere to fall into close to the airport before setting off on our road trip. The Emperor's Place is billed as Las Vegas something that was not obvious on arrival apart from the casino signs. Checking with the concierge on where to eat we were directed to this slightly unreal Disney-esque experience that was not explained or promoted anywhere in the hotel. Multiple restaurants from every nationality all under an almost realistic artificial sky. We had a great meal in of the many outlets overlooking themed Italian streets surrounding numerous gambling opportunities. The hotel itself is what you'd expect, however the breakfast was the best buffet I think we have ever seen. They call SA the rainbow nation and certainly every taste was represented a breakfast. Overall great place to be close to the airport.

I booked a ticket to treat myself to a comedy show that was being hosted at the Emporium at Emperor's Palace so instead of driving back home late that evening I booked accommodation at this establishment. It was definitely an excellent choice! Loved the shuttle service offered to the airport, makes perfect sense in convenience. Great service, stunning room with matching views. I would definitely be back even though I do reside on the other side of Jhb :-)

Room Tip: Corner suites quite higher up have the best views!

Our destination was Kruger National Park however we arrived several days early and decided to wait on the rest of the family to arrived. We stayed at this hotel for two days before traveling north and eventually returning for another day. After the tour of Kruger National Park we returned to this same hotel, thus we stayed at this location three different times during December and January. We used the shuttle transportation that the hotel makes available to and from the airport. The shuttle stops at the four hotel located in this complex. Service is continuous except for late night hours. It takes less than 15 minutes to travel from the airport to the hotel. All hotel buses park behind the Intercontinental Hotel for loading and unloading. The drivers most courteous. Luggage is not a problem as there is a trailer attached to the bus for the transportation of baggage. Some people nevertheless insist of carrying with them every piece of luggage they own.

The check in at the hotel was quick, efficient and courteous each time. In fact we were greeted by name the second and third time we checked in. I booked the hotel trough a travel service in Amsterdam since they had the most competitive rate. The hotel lobby was spotless.

Our first room was on the fourth floor and it was a king size bed. The room and all the amenities were excellent. Our Wf-Fi was excellent. There was Christmas themes and music around the swimming pool area and our room was on that side. We did not mind the activity and in fact enjoyed it. Everything ceased at 10PM around the pool area. On out second return to this hotel we were closer to the end of the hallway and the Wi-Fi was not the best, plus we had twin beds. That was my fault. The third stay we were back to the end with the good Wi-Fi and back in a king sized bed. Our rooms were very clean (my wife always inspects the sheets) and everything was to our satisfaction. Towels were nice and large.

There are four hotels in this complex, a casino, a movie theater and many restaurants. The place looks a little like a miniature DisneyWorld. If you enjoy this kind of a setting you will love your stay. If this is not your “cup of tea” you will not like the hotel.

We ate breakfast each day in the hotel restaurant and found it to be excellent. Eggs and omelets are cooked to order and there was an abundance of other foods available and we found the quality and quality to be excellent. While this is a self service breakfast area, the wait staff was always there to bring you coffee, teas, etc.
There were so many good eating-places in the mall area behind the casino that we ate lunch and dinner there.

We had a rental car while there and parking was free, just outside the front door of the hotel. The parking lot attendant was very friendly and accommodating as we unloaded our luggage.

Our check out each time was efficient, courteous and the bill was always correct. This was a most enjoyable stay and it will certainly be our stop the next time we need a room close to the airport in Johannesburg. We did not use the pool nor the spa while there. It is just a few feet to the casino and restaurants, however unless you look out of your window you will not hear the sounds coming from either. We did use the concierge service one time to get direction in Johannesburg and that ended up being a real challenge.

Room tip: If using the Wi Fi be sure and ask for a room that has good Wi Fi reception. Wi Fi is excellent in the lobby and dining room. When making your reservation be sure and note the type of room you desire, i.e. king side or two twins.

Johannesburg Driving Tip: The entire area was in the process of installing toll equipment on the major highways. When I ask the car rental agency about this I was told it was not being turned on for a few more days. They did not seem to have a clue on how this would impact rental car users. We saw lots of cameras but no toll booths. I assumed the system will work like many do in Texas where you have a troll tag or will be billed for the toll cost.

We had 5 rooms booked at the hotel and being a regular gambling family, we decided to stay there for the week end. We made a reservation at Aurelia's for Friday night diner, on arrival we were shown to our table and seated. We were then greeted by Busi our waitress and we requested a wine menu, she obliged and informed us tonight will be a buffet at R185.00 per person. On her return with the wine menu she handed to to the table and disappeared. She return to ask if we had selected our wine, and I my self at that time requested a mineral water from her which she delivered. At no point did she ask anyone else for beverage orders. And was very nervous around our large table, she needs training on large tables or the manager should allocate her in a small table section. We ordered the wine and was delivered. The buffet diners were already on salads as no starters are available on the buffet. At this point we demanded that the ala carte menu is provided to other diners and beverage orders be requested. We had to also request that the orders for ala carte be taken. When the first diner went to the main course options she selected a piece of fish and on her return to the table I noticed a fishy smell and on tasting the piece it was off. Two other diners went to get mains and they found 3 pork options, the off fish, an extremely over cocked ravioli dish that the sauce and pasta had be come goo, and a meat dish wish gelatinized sauce and dried out edges, the chicken dish was also completely dried out from standing, the mixed veg had so much oil over it to make it look fresh it was floating in it. My entire family does not eat pork so our options were the off fish, dried meat or chicken. Whilst at the buffet the manager was notified and nothing was said or done. At that point I requested that the manager walked with me away from the restaurant where I told him about our experience and my reply was thank you for the feed back, no apology. We only received the ala carte meals once all the buffet diners, who only ate salads, had finished.

Please reconsider before dinning here, they don't care about consumers and food quality!

As food and beverage management of a well known five star property in sandton I can vouch that this level of service and quality of food is not the standard in SA nor in a five star property.

Should any of the management wish to make contact with me pleas do so on,

This hotel is part of a huge gated complex of hotels, casinos etc. very close to Johannesburg airport, with frequent complementary buses. It's probably the most upmarket of the four or so hotels within the complex. It's easy, close and safe in a city which can be difficult and dangerous and I think perfect for a layover. The rooms are a rather ornate (a bit Vegas) with a little juliet balcony, nice outlook, clean with a comfortable bed and bathroom. I thought they were a little cheap on the bathroom amenities when I would have really appreciated stuff as I was only travelling with a tiny safari bag, and given that the rooms are expensive for an airport hotel. Breakfast is superb.
