Sunrock is located 5 min from Joburg airport and free transportation is provided. Ina and Arthur cannot do enough for you. The rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. The full hot breakfast was delicious as was the dinner that we requested. Dinner was served in the beautiful thatched lounge bar area that will remind you of being in the bush. Ina arranged transportation for us to spend a day at an animal viewing park. Whenever we stay in Johannesburg we will be at Sunrock, staying there is like staying with personal friends.

I stayed at Sunrock Guesthouse with a group of 9 as we were passing through Johannesburg on the way to Zambia for a medical mission trip. The location was great (very close to the airport), and the service was spectacular. Arthur, the owner, met us at the airport and transported us there. He ordered pizza for us, gave us some of his homemade beef jerky, and shared some of his interesting South African experiences. We slept well, and the next morning had a great breakfast. The fruit, cereal, bread, and made-to-order eggs were great! Our group had planned to store some luggage at the Johannesburg airport, but when Arthur found this out, he told us it would be way too expensive and offered to store our luggage at his guesthouse for free! After our medical mission in Zambia, we came back through Johannesburg on the way to Cape town for a few days of vacation. Arthur met us at the airport and switched out our stored luggage for the bags we had taken to Zambia. Then a few days later, on our way back to the states, he met us again to return our luggage. He was extremely helpful and went way above and beyond! Sunrock Guesthouse is a great place to stay!

Great value for great service. Airport pickup late on Saturday evening worked very well. Clean large comfortable room with tea and coffeee.
Able to arrange an early breakfast, muesli, fruit juices, egg bacon and toast all done to order. Then airport drop off for an early flight.
Very friendly homely atmosphere.
I have recomended this place to my brother who stayed there last weekend.

I travelled to Sunrock with a group of 15 other people on a church "mission trip" to Mozambique. We stopped in Johannesburg for a rest in route to Mozambique. We found the accomodations extremely comfortable and our host Arthur, a fantastic personality. He gave us extremely personalized service, provided some rides and answered lots of questions. Breakfast was the best we had in Africa. His family is a delight.

We chose to stay here for 1 night during the World Cup based on the excellent reviews it got on tripadvisor and also because of its location near the airport (flight to Cape Town the next morning). We were sorely disappointed based on the price that we paid for the room! We paid the World Cup "discount" of ~ 1700 ZAR for a standard double room, which based on their published rates is almost double what it usually is during this time of year (winter = low season). We definitely thought that it was very weak of management to increase the prices so much during the World Cup since we stayed at many places during our two weeks in South Africa that chose not to raise their rates.

The room itself was eh. It was clean, which I guess one should expect for the inflated price that we paid, but it wasn't overly nice or luxurious. We had a room in the very front which turned out to be very noisy since people who came in late loitered around the front area and chatted right next to our room (I'm assuming the back rooms are quieter). Furthermore, our toilet stopped flushing at some point and we needed to get management to fix it.

The staff was eh as well. Polite but not overly nice or helpful.

The breakfast was OK. There was some nice chessy biscuits (no idea what it's real name is) but otherwise, there was nothing special.

And, they made you pay for WiFi :-(

Overall, I think this would be a decent place at the normal published rate, but it definitely was not worth the 1700 ZAR that we paid, and I feel that this reflects somewhat negatively IMHO on the values of the management to inflate prices so much during the World Cup.

Yes, it's a great location if you are on a business trip because you are so close from the airport, that the only point. When you travel for fun that advantage become an inconvenient cause it's so noisy but so noisy, hard to sleep.
The room is nice but so cold... it was winter there so zero degrees at night and you just have a little small heater which doesn't heat AT ALL.
The staff is really nice. But they come pick me up one hour late at the airport
The breakfast really average.
