Stayed here last week and to total of 4 nights between two visits. Rooms are small but effective. Liked had outside access to the rooms. Breakfast is nothing special!

Location is close enough to the town of Melville, two block walk, if that is your destination. It is also close to Joburg. The area is different from what we are used to in the USA, everything is walled in with bark wire and electric fencing along the top to keep out intruders. But I always felt safe within the B&B grounds. They also has a security guard that walked the property all night long.

I feel so lucky to have The Melville Turret Guest House as my 'home' when I am working in Newtown. The welcome in gracious, the rooms are divine, the beds just fabulous. I've had the loft for a week which was like a Penthouse, just wonderful, but I also like rm 24 and 25, smaller but very cosy, I had the pleasure of space in rm 23 on my first visit. I go to Jozi on business but I will stay here with my daughter so i can show her around the fabulous area. Breakfast is wonderful, so much choice, really helpful staff, don't hesitate book now! Nothing is too much trouble here. Kind regards, Ruth UK (Finance Manager Synergy Global Consulting)

Room Tip: The Loft is fabulous if you want to be spoilt, it's huge, has a roof top patio with table and chairs, huge bath, walk in shower, air con, flat screen tv and wifi, fab white leather chairs... huge bed..... I also like the smaller rooms, all of them have fridge and tv and wifi and tea making facilites and en suite, you can't go wrong!

Three of us from Australia stayed at Melville Turret in early September, 2011. We had an excellent stay and would highly recommend it. It was secure, pleasant and peaceful, and the breakfasts were fine. Part way through our three night stay, we were told that the loft room was available, for only a little extra cost, so two of us took it. It was great, with lovely views out towards the city and our own little balcony. The area is safe and secure and we walked up to trendy Seventh street for dinner of an evening (only 5 -10 mins walk away - lots of shops and eateries - Melon and Lucky Bean are very good restaurants).
Craig in Melbourne

Room Tip: The loft room up above is really worth the extra money.

We stayed one night in the loft room, which is very romantic and spacious. Large and comfortable kingsize bed, the open plan room also includes lounge chairs, kitchenette with fridge, kettle, microwave, dinner service, glasses etc but no oven or hob. There is a large round dining table and four chairs.
The bathroom has both bath and walk in shower, the shower door was a little tricky to close and each time the shower was used, it appeared to leak water onto the bathroom floor.
There is no information in the rooms about the local restaurants which we would have found helpful, you are within walking distance of a number of great bars and eateries, it is safe to walk Seventh Street.
The biggest problem we had with the guesthouse was breakfast, no one greeted us when we arrived or explained the options available. It felt like there was only one person in the kitchen cooking the breakfasts and they doubled this with reception duties? We waited 20 minutes before anyone took our omlette order with no apologies for the long delayt. In the time that we had been in the breakfast room there was only one other guest - not sure how long you would wait if you arrived at a busy time!!
The loft room is lovely and the guesthouse very convenient for seventh street but I am sorry to say that customer service needs to be reviewed - hence the 3 stars.

Good location near the Meville neighborhood stretch of restaurants and bars. We felt very safe here. There was a lovely courtyard and the loft room is worth the extra money.
