I highly recommended the Soweto tour with Mandy to any traveller type.
Her personal passion and dedication to her role is evident through her knowledge and desire to make every tour unique.
I was travelling on my own and felt completely safe at all times whilst on tour.
The driver is also very polite, safe and obeys road rules.

There are many ways to tour Soweto, but if you want the real Soweto, go with Mandy Mankazana from Imbizo Tours (www.imbizotours.co.za). Mandy lives in Soweto – not all tour guides do. And she has an upbeat enthusiasm for her community that was a joy to experience. We saw the Mandela family home, Vilakazi Street, the Hector Peterson Memorial and so much more. Mandy took us to the church were Desmond Tutu and others held their Truth and Reconciliation meetings. We visited the Freedom Charter Monument and a market in Kliptown, one of the less affluent neighbourhoods. And also we met and talked with local residents in one of the informal shantytown settlements. Mandy was frank about the past and the future and all the time fun to be with. I can't imagine visiting Soweto with anyone else.

My husband and I took a tour with Imbizo tours in February. We had a great half day tour of Soweto with Mandy. She is a lovely, opionated, and knowledgeable person and has a truly sparkling personality. She let us take a deep look in her identity, the South African identity and politics, as well as the different faces of Soweto. It was truly memorable, especially since she brought us in contact with different people around Soweto who carried out smaller parts of the tour (e.g. Tully in Kliptown). And we always felt safe because we were with locals.
This tour was no classic sight seeing, it was rather a cultural and anthropolical lesson, which changed our view on a lot of things concerning South Africa. We learned so much more by talking about the Apartheid, Zulu rituals, and living in a township with locals than we would have by only visiting e.g. Nelson Mandelas house (which we only saw from the outside). Mandy makes one feel like a welcomed friend whom she is showing her life and the life of her people. She tries to leave an impression on ones heart, not in ones head.
This has been a memorable experience for us which we can absolutely recommend for people who want to know more about a place than its architecure and the main tourist spots (even though we are perfectly sure Mandy could do that as well, if one wishes for that ;-) ).

We went on a half day tour to Soweto in December 2013. Our guide way Moya and I have nothing but praise for him. We liked him from the moment we met him. He told us a lot about history and culture of South Africa, and in particular about Soweto, and was keen on answering our many questions. We even visited Kliptown, one of poorest parts of Soweto, and met some locals. If you're wondering about security, don't worry - we felt completely safe the entire time and moreover, many told us they appreciate tourist as we in fact bring income to their communities. If you're in Johannesburg, don't miss this tour with Imbizo, it's definitely worth it!

We booked a tour to Soweto, almost reluctant to being typical voyeurism tourists who come along to take photos. But Imbizo tours is different - Mandy takes you into the community to the markets, to interact with locals and into the townships to meet the residents. It is a real incite into life in Soweto - and shows the charm of the area! At every point I felt comfortable, safe and like I was getting a real look into life in Soweto. Mandy was full of information and personalised our tour to our interests. I could not recommend her enough!
