Mayor of Johannesburg should hang his head in shame. The building and art are excellent. The upkeep of the building is shockingly bad because the City fails to maintain it. The art is at risk of being damaged through the neglect. And the public is too scared to navigate the decaying surrounds and visit.

Look out Picasso. Local artists as well as international shownings all through the year.

Unfortunately the 'better' pieces seem to stay hidden in storage

I am extremely disappointed with this museum. As already mentioned the building is beautiful and the area that it’s located in, in Joburg cbd is safe and allows visitors an opportunity to experience “normal” everyday South African life.

The artwork in the museum was however very limited. When I visited on 26 January 2012 there were a maximum of 40 artworks. What I was most disappointed by was the lack of South African art; I was one Kentridge and one Sekoto. However, the child abuse exhibition was brilliant.

This museum has great potential.
