A decent place to have a good Indian food inside a mall. Rates are ok and the interiors have the Indian flavours.

What happens when you go to a restaurant and the food is good and the serivce bad .... Do you go back? Well. Not sure of the answer. But choice is yours . The food is good . They have a resonably good wine selection to compliment the food . The food is tasteful and lots of flavour . But the service is appalling.

Ps... I have read the other reviews who say the service is good etc ... Maybe this was the b-team. The manager was there we did complain after the meal .. But not sure he took us serious . He was talking to customers but spent the entire time at one table and ignored the rest of the restaurant ...

I've been going to Sitar for years and the food and service over this time has been consistently good. Owner-managed and run, it is always pleasing to have Keith come over to the table for a chat and to ensure that everything is fine.
Great ambiance, food and service has ensured that Sitar is voted one of the top restaurants in Johannesburg every year.
Even kids are well catered for with kid's portion meals.
I strongly recommend the masala chai as an alternative to post-dinner coffee... very refreshing!
If anything, it would be great if they brought back the live Indian musicians, even if only on weekends or special occasions/holidays. They had this a few years back and it was a true Indian experience dining to the sounds of a real Sitar or live band... nothing noisy, just soothing instrumental music.
