“Definitely a must visit”
Reviewed August 21, 2014

La Trinita is an Italian restaurant in Kyalami about 20kms/13miles from Sandton.
The restaurant is owned and run by a mother and daughter team, Tessa and La-La.
Everything is made fresh and to your specs. Hmmm, maybe....
Sometimes La-la will tell you you don't know what you are talking about and you should try it this ... way to enjoy the true beauty and taste of salmon/spaghetti/ ravioli etc.
No, honestly La-La will greet you like her long lost BFF and come to your table to discuss what is special today and what you would like.
A wonderful lunch/dinner will ensue and you will just know you have to go back.

“High quality Italian food”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

This small Italian restaurant offers superb personal service by Tessa and La-La. Adding requested ingredients to a dish is no problem. The superb meat lasagne is best ordered ahead and is the tastiest experienced thus far in Johannesburg. Recommended are the minestrone (additional pasta and tomato paste can be added), the spaghetti bolonaise, and the thin based pizzas. The thin crisp garlic or herb focaccia is excellent. The chicken liver starter is generous with the livers cooked in a very tasty gravy.
Although the seating and decor is basic the overall atmosphere is warm and inviting and the waitpersons attentive and pleasant. The management will explain each menu item and make recommendations

“Real food and customer service”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

It isn't often that I give a restaurant this sort of rating. It might have been 4.5 (Exceptionally Good) if TripAdvisor allowed that sort of rating. But they are in top rung anyway, and they deserve that spot.

First of all - the food. The contributors that rave about it should not be taken lightly. The Veal Marsala or Vitello Speciale (if you prefer) was to die for. But have it with pasta, not polento or chips, or else you lose the essence of the veal and its complementing (not overbearing) sauce. Not enough room left for desert.

There was an issue with the Fettucini Vongole, which (probably inadvertently) turned out to be too hot to touch. So a tip for newcomers: if you don't care for chili and hot stuff or anything else out of the ordinary - make your preferences known.

That brings me to the second point - real service. Never experienced this in a Joburg restaurant for a long time except here. Too much chili? No probleme - switched for a small veal in no time and with a smile. That was a rare treat. Staff - with the ladies in the vanguard - were like nowhere else. Always a smile, never too much trouble. Italian hospitality we last saw in Sorrento, and that was a while ago. So five out of five compared to any Joburg restaurant we've seen recently.

And third - ambiance, character. Others have said it all, and they are right. Last time I looked (twenty, thirty years or more ago, I'm sorry, there used to be a La Mama's on Louis Botha Avenue or the Ragno D'Oro in Kensington and a few trattorias around Rivonia that could compete). No more. Go to Kyalami Downs. Even the skew picture maps of Firenze, Roma and Venezia are part of it. And the other bits and pieces. Straight from the Secret of Santa Vittoria. Only better. And the regulars out for their midday break. Yes, it is hidden away a bit and up the stairs (bad for wheelchairs and legs in plaster) but if one doesn't suffer from that, it's a perfect spot for an impromptu lunch lunch or a real Italian dinner (with real tenors, I'm led to believe).

It's more than worth the trip.

“Exquisite!!!!”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

This is my preferred Italian restaurant in the area. They say home is where the heart is and that is true especially when referring to La-Trinita. La-La and Tessa are the most sincere, caring, wholesome people you will ever meet. Their food is wonderful and their service even grander. They bring enjoyment and joviality to their patrons of whom all adore them. Ti amiamo e grazie . The Dos Santos Famiglia
