“What's happened?”
Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Wang Thai used to be the standard that all other Thai restaurants in Jhb could be measured by. Well this is no longer true. When we arrived, we noticed the addition of the noodle bar and the friendly Thai staff having been replaced by local staff. There has been more additions of Thai script on the menu and on the crockery. This was fine, but the biggest disappointment was the food. The Thai Beef Salad and the Beef noodle dish tasted exactly the same and that depth of flavour, typical of Thai food, was completely missing. In hindsight, it almost seems like the restaurant is in the same location, with the same look and feel, except that there is a new owner who has changed everything that you cannot see - the chef and kitchen staff, food suppliers, and food prep. Perhaps they are purely focusing on the lucrative tourism market? "Burn them once and it won't matter, as you will never see them again!" It seems a bit shortsighted to me........

“No not good and very overpriced!”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

This was not the first time we eat there. And it was always good, not super and the prices are too high. The staff is really not good.
But last time it was terrible, the staff was serving totaly wrong, hanging over you to put every on the table! The food was average and everything to have to order extra, like veggies. And the prizes are really over the top. The wines are hightly prized and the wines on the list are too young.
No this was really the last time we were there.

And they donot respons on reservations at all, by email.

“Best Thai food in Sandton”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

We love this Thai restaurant in Sandton, the food they serve is so tasty, and it gives you a change after the steak and seafood.

The only trouble we have is the opening time of this restaurant, they only open at 12pm for lunch, and 6pm for dinner, most time we went to sandton, we had to wait for the time to be served.

“Always Good”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Wang Thai will always have a place in my heart (and in my stomach) for introducing me to the world of Thai Cuisine. The food is authentic and prepared by Thai chefs, with as many authentic ingredients as possible. The waiters, however, are local and trained quite extensively in menu knowledge, which helps you as a customer to negotiate through dishes you might otherwise be unfamiliar with.

My favourite dish is the Angry Duck, but there are so many options and combinations to choose from I suggest you go in a party of at least 4 people, so that you can try as many dishes as possible.

Go hungry, and enjoy!

“Wow!”
Reviewed December 11, 2012 via mobile

It's been a few years since I've eaten here, and was pleasantly surprised! Food was excellent! Things have definitely improved! We had 3 starters to share and 5 main meals! All food was excellent! And I have eaten in top UK Thai restaurants and have spent 2 months in Thailand. Pity they were out of stock of Thai beers!
