Dear Tshepiso R,

Thanks for posting your review on Trip Advisor, we appreicate it. We are delighted you chose 54 on Bath for your special celebration. We are quickly finding out that local Joburgers are making the most of a "getaway" within their own city for such celebrations and we hope you agree that this is the perfect hotel to do so. We hope to see you for the next birthday!

We stayed there for two nights on business in May 2013 and we were utterly surprised. we have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world, Ashford Castle in Ireland and the Livingston in Zambia to name a few, but what a surprise we got when we walked into 54 on Bath in Rosebank South Africa. From the personal check in to the porter collecting our luggage to the maitre de at breakfast, everyone was so friendly without being familiar. The welcoming treats in the room was amazing!!!! And the beautiful display of the miniature high tea tray of treats, with the most beautiful cakes on was just so quaint. This is the only hotel that i stayed in where after one night i knew everyone by name, from Jacques Moolman the GM to Betty to checked us in to Peter our porter and Richard our maitre de and last but not least the friendly Eric that served us in the lounge. The breakfast was not the normal old buffet but a wonderful display of cheeses, meats and fruits and yoghurts all in personalised cutlery. We will definatily recommend and stay with you again.

Dear Heilavh,

Thank you so much for reviewing our hotel. We take great pride in attention to detail and without our fantastic team of staff this would be impossible, thank you for recognising these two qualities during your stay and for highlighting those that made a personal impact whilst you were here. We look forward to loking after you next time you are in Johannesburg.

We had a fantastic experience at 54 on Bath. The hotel's aesthetics were extremely desirable. The room decor was elegant with great attention to detail throughout the room. The coffee/tea bar was one of the best I have experienced. The breakfast was the highlight of our stay. We will return.

I can't say enough about my experience at 54 on Bath. Checking in was a breeze as we were escorted to nice sit down area in the lobby, which is similar to someone's own living room. After hours of travelling it was a welcome treat. We were offered a lovely refreshment and then personally escorted to our rooms. Upon entering our room the staff showed us the amenities, such as personal coffee with espresso machine and safe etc. I noticed the small 'attention' to detail such as a bathroom candle and loofah. Would highly recommend this hotel for comfort and luxury.

Dear Linda R,

Thank you for your kind words and for visiting 54 on Bath, we are very appreciative of your support. Since we are a small hotel we welcome our guests on a personal level and the lounge is a perfect area for that first introduction. I trust you made good use of the coffee machine; there are 4 varieties of Illy coffee to choose from and they are all delightful!
Please do visit again the next time you visit South Africa!

This groovy new boutique hotel is the result of a purchase and rebranding by Tsogo Sun from the former Grace Hotel and reopened in July 2012 after an extensive makeover.

The ‘greet’ is a fun experience with Willard the concierge greeting you in a very funky frock coat and bowler hat. Swift, convivial and a bit of fun, reinforcing the changing face of luxury hotels from stodgy and stiff.

My check-in was a bit bumpy when I arrived in my first room on the 9th floor to an unmade bed, but this was quickly rectified by David who discovered I’d been changed to 709. This room had a great outlook over the pool, but was in a WiFi shadow, so I was changed to 708, overlooking the car park. View sacrificed for connectivity, so if you need fast reliable internet, you’ll need to get a room on this unsexy side of the hotel.

Having inspected three deluxe standard rooms, I can say they are all spotlessly turned out with quality Molson Brown amenities, big fat TV, good sized working desk space and neat selection of complimentary snacks and glass bottled water. Needed to iron a shirt for dinner but no ironing board, so housekeeping kindly offered a free pressing and turned that around inside an hour, so no complaints there.

Didn’t get a chance to sample dinner at the acclaimed Level Four restaurant or gym, nor inspect the other room categories, so cannot comment there, but there are images on the website. There is handy covered access to Rosebank Shopping Mall which, at time of writing, was undergoing extensive renovations and not a perfect experience.

Breakfast is a classy affair with a small but fancy continental selection laid out and hot selections a la carte. Pot coffee was weak and not to my taste, but rectified with a stiff latte from the barista.

In a comical departure scene, I was helping stack the luggage trolley and tore a mighty embarrassing rift in my trousers. Vincent came to my rescue by pressing a spare pair hurriedly extracted from my duffle and preserved what was left of my dignity. Fortunately I was wearing matching briefs (!) Thank you.

All in all, a fun stay despite a couple of hiccups. Most importantly, the staff handled these little challenges superbly and demonstrated sound training and predictive service.

Room Tip: Get a carpark facing room if you need fast internet.

Recently my husband and I spend the night at 54 On Bath in Rosebank. Upon arrival friendly bell boys neatly dressed in suites and top hats received us and immediately assisted us with our luggage. Upon entering the reception area we received a refreshing welcome drink and our check-in was dealt with in a very timely fashion. On entering our room a wrapped welcome gift awaited us on the desk. Even though the shower is a bit small, the bathroom also has a seperate bath, the elegant contemporary rooms are beautiful and very comfortable as one can even order a specific type of pillow for your bed according to your liking, serve yourself some coffee from the nespresso machine and have the newspaper delivered to your door. Furthermore, the food is delicious and what I really enjoyed about this intimate hotel is the very personalised service that one receives. Frequently little treats are delivered to your room with a little card to state which member of the staff helped to create this special experience for you. Finally the location of 54 On Bath is also great as the hotel has a passage way that connects to all the shops and restaurants of Rosebank Mall.

My wife and I spent the Easter Weekend at the hotel and I cannot fault the service or the quality one bit. We used to stay at the hotel when it was the Grace and I am pleased to say that it's even better than we expected.

Two minor problems, hardly worth mentioning - wifi quality in the room was poor and the height of the beds was a bit of a problem - too high.

The staff is absoolutely wonderful and were most obliging in everything they did. We'll definitely see them again.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are more spacious
