“Best views of Johannnesburg”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

If you want the best views of central Johannesburg, this is the place to go.
A little tricky to find the entrance point which is in the shopping area below. I asked in a shop, the people were very friendly and helpful. The cost was 15 rand. A lift takes you to the top floor. There are black & white photographs on the walls of johannesburg of old & also photos of the construction of the building.
There is a cafe at the top for meals and drinks. I spoke to the manager there who is pushing for the cafe to be refurbished as its in need of modernising but its fine. He was very passionate about the carlton building, it was a pleasure to talk with him.
Whilst I was there, a storm came in from the direction of the airport. It was stunning to watch.
It felt very safe to me in the building and indeed on the street. I would be careful after dark though as Johannesburg is maybe more dangerous than most big cities at the moment.
I am white and 48 years old. Enjoy the views.

“Great view of Johannesburg”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

I got a great view of the whole city from the 50th floor, one could see how well planned the city is, other skyscrapers and have a good time. The building is well located and there is a lift dedicated for the 50th floor only

“Unpleasant, not safe at all.”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

I was at the Carlton about 10 years ago, and it was a de luxe complex, beautifully decorated. It is not the case now. It is dirty, but most frighteningly it is extremely dangerous. One is followed by creeapy and unpleasant characters. Avoid!

“50th floor what a view over the city of Jozi”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Having been here last some 8 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived on the citysightseeing bus.
Was caught off guard when the entry into the 50th floor could not accept credit cards. For 2 adults and 2 kids it was only ZAR40.00. Lift was quick and there we were. All clean and everything working. View amazing in all directions, the clear weather helped as we could see for miles. Transnet could update the photos in the different directions as new buildings have sprung up over the last 20 years! For kids it is amazing to see the different views.
