Reminds me of my father. One of the tanks was his, he recognised the interior. It is also interesting as to the change of military equipment.

“South Africa by car”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

Recently my husband and I (both retired in mid 60's) visited South Africa for one month. We landed in Joburg, coached to Nelspruit, hired a car from Hertz, then drove to Kruger where we stayed for 5 nights, then drove down through Swaziland to Capetown. Had a great trip. Some comments which may be of assistance to others are:
JoBurg: Stayed in Rosebank Lodge, terrific, safe convenient location. Caught the Gautrain (fantastic) from the airport to Rosebank, then a short walk to the Lodge. Room great, breakfasts excellent. A great location at a fair price. Did a day trip to Soweto which was great but humbling. A day spent at the Apartheid Museum was good. Caught the Gautrain mostly. No problems with security. Thoroughly enjoyed it and can recommend Rosebank.
Coached to Nelspruit with Intercape. Picked up a Chev Spark there. Would have been better if we had spent a little more and got a larger car as the hills were very demanding of the vehicle.
Kruger was great. Did four ranger guided tours (2 night and 2 morning) and both were worthwhile. Stayed at Pretsoriukop and Berg en Dal. Preferred Pretsoriukopt as felt it had a bit more of an African feel. Wildlife viewing was great and enjoyed it all
Then on to Swaziland, Malandelas Guesthouse, was great and the countryside was good.
Then down through Mtubatuba, Eshowe (Eshowe Guesthouse great), to Kloof (not much to see) Hogsback, Graaf Reinet (excellent) Plettenberg Bay, Oudshoorn, Swellendam, Franschoek and to Capetown where we stayed at 21 Braemar Street (good accomodation and very central). We then caught the Premier Classe train back to Johburg to fly home. The train trip was great as it went up the centre (more or less) of the country and we saw country we had not seen before.
All in all it was great, terrific scenery, an interesting country with so much recent history. Can recommend it to all.

“World Class Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2012

This is a museum to rival and even better some European museums. the sheer variety of exhibits make it worth visiting. The impact of having full size aircraft hanging from the ceiling is incredible, even not taking into account that these aircraft are legendary in their own right. I loved the place and could have spent the entire day there.

“Pretty boring actually”

Really just a collection of old military vehicles and equipment. Not very educational and seems disconnected from our recent history

“Military Museum”

As far as museums go - it was OK - not something I would rush out to do first opportunity I get. The children had fun climbing all over the exhibits.
