“fun shops and eateries in this funky neighborhood”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

If you're spending time in Jozi, make sure to spend at least an afternoon in the Melville area. The boho vibe and unique cafes and shops are great, and you can walk from the nearby b&bs safely.

“Good food & Shopping”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

It was so interesting to visit Melville after many years. Lots of 2nd hand & vintage clothing shops, interesting pubs and cocktail lounges, and restaurants serving delicious food.

“Area has really gone down”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

I remember Melville from my student days as a bohemian enclave with sidewalk cafes, book, art and antique stores. I was quite disappointed to find during a recent visits that virtually all had been driven out and a large number of bars had taken their place. Everything closed up during the day and the pavements smelling of alcohol and urine. Try 4th Ave Parkhurst instead if you are longing for the character of old Melville.
