Description: The flagship of the Thai Africa Group is undoubtedly Wangthai Sandton which overlooks the prestigious Nelson Mandela Square. The most authentic Thai restaurant outside of Thailand. Wangthai Sandtonalso serves the DIY dining experience: sensational Thai Suki Hot Pot. A culinary concept which dates back over 1 000 years in Asian history, Thai Suki Hot Pot today - continues to tantalise the pallet and tease the senses with its fragrant oriental flavours. Best enjoyed as a group affair; the Thai Suki Hot Pot sees an aromatic broth, brimming with flavourful Eastern ingredients, placed in a pot, and atop an induction stove - within the centre of the table. This simmers away throughout the evening, while guests gentle poach their favourite selection of fresh ingredients. There is very little effort involved, other than to indulge, at leisure, in the refreshingly light tastes of Thailand. Wangthai, invites both businessmen and women, as well as the social sect, to sample this ancient cooking tradition, to which it has added a unique measure of contemporary stylishness.

The tom gyun soup was spicy
You will find a variety of asian dishes
Just take your time to look for your perfect dish on the menu
The only negative point is that the toilets are outside the restaurant

The food is good and there is a nice view of Mandela square if you sit on the upper deck outside. You can get to the restaurant from Mandela square or from inside the mall via escalators.

Our experience at this place was very good, we came back a second time because this has been in our opinion one of the best places in Mandela's square. The "seafood platter" was a very tasty dish of fresh grilled food. It was served with 3 sauces at side, so if you don't like any of them, you put on only the one you like. I also liked a lot the ananas rice with shrimps and cashew nuts. The noodles were not the best in our opinion. The sorbet was also a bit deceiving, we are Italian so maybe we are too spoiled with Italian ice cream :-) However, in general, our experience was great.

My mother and I went to Wangthai on 18th Sept expecting to have good service and some nice food and all we had was a lousy experience.
After waiting for more than 40 min to get a table, when told we were the first on the queue and would not take more than 20 min, two ladies who arrived after us were seated before us.
Food is never consistent at Wangthai. Also, waiter on training was trying hard, but unfortunately no guidance from manager. So right after the main, we ordered the bill straight, but never got the machine to pay for it, we then stood up and not one question why we had to go to reception to pay.
The so-called manager came to speak to us after my feedback to the receptionist and it was shocking to see how this obnoxious person is running a restaurant.

I've only ever spent a few hours in Thailand, so I can't say whether Wangthai offers 'authentic' Thai food or not, but I can say that the service is good and the food is very nice, regardless of what a Thai grandmother would say to it!

Very good for a relaxing lunch overlooking Mandela Square.
