“Small, but Unique”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

Had a work function here a few years ago. I was surprised at how small it was as a lot of people recommended it, but we had a good time there.

“Dark, dingy and filled with character”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

I have been to radium on a number of occasions and it is generally pumping. They often have live music and then the noise levels are quite difficult to deal with but the food is tasty and even when we have gone in big groups the service has been good. There are interesting posters on the wall including News Headlines and the owner certainly has a sense of humour and will throw you out if you put your feet on the chairs (which is something that I am not averse to doing ;-)). It has been around for many years and has a strong following with a strange mix of clientele. Definitely worth a visit - memorable!

“Not for me”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

Dated, shabby, poor services. Neighbourhood also no longer desirable. Or maybe I am too old for this vibe?

“Great Sunday outing”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Great vibe and music. Real old Joburg atmosphere with oodles of old world charm. Try it on a Sunday for amazing jazz and good basic food and of course the odd beer!

“Do not miss this haunt - one of the oldest traditions in Johannesburg”
Reviewed June 6, 2012

I have been numerous times - and this place just keeps on giving up great food and fun. It is an institution, and if you come to JHB, you need to pop in. Locals rub shoulders with Sandton bankers, and everyone is the same. The owner keep this spot ship-shape with no nonsense, which ensures that all patrons feel safe, and still have a wonderful time. Car guards will watch your car, and should be tipped.
Grab a great pizza, or arrive for a jazz show. Menu is a good mix of foods, mainly Portugese (Trinchado's etc), but even the dieters will find something to satisfy. They have a website now www.theradium.co.za, which will give you all the latest goings on there, the upcoming shows, and the history of the place (a fascinating read).
A great historic spot in JHB, and love going there. Reminds me...I need to organise a table of friends for a jazz evening..........
