what a pleasure to be in a country where the meat is so free of disease and contamination that one can be offered a medium-rare hamburger instead of the incinerated offerings that are forced on us in u.k.! the better of the two we had on this visit was undoubtedly at gingko, which specialises in organic foods and fresh juices plus an emphasis on gluten-free. besides a range of cook-to-order light meals, there is an extensive array of hot and cold vegetarian dishes on a help-yourself-weigh-to-pay basis. of the nine tempting cakes on the desert table, only one was not gluten free; our choice of 'chocolate goddess' was full of flavour and well complemented by the sharpness of the accompanying fruit compote. yes, as others have said, service is slow but this is not a fast-food, get-them-in-get-them-out site. you are encouraged to relax and saviour the atmosphere as well as the food.

As a regular visitor I really want to be able to recommend Ginkgo even if only because it offers a wide and interesting selection of gluten- and dairy-free options in a convenient Parks location. Sadly, however the service is really abysmal. When the food is good it is great, but that is if it actually arrives.

I gave this place a second chance on the slim hope that my first experience was a once-off, but that wasn't the case. I need to stipulate that there were maybe 2 occupied tables when we arrived.
The pros are that the food is quite good and there is a nice play area.
The cons are that its quite expensive, service is hopelessly slow and you wait a ridiculous amount of time for food to arrive. More than 45 minutes for a toasted cheese that they screwed up anyway. I went there with a friend and her 3 year old. The jungle gym isn't safe for small kids and they can fall through, there aren't enough bars. We waited more than 20 minutes for a kiddies orange juice. When we ordered food, they only brought our food and not the child's because they has accidentally given her toasted cheese to another child and then wanted to give us the toasted ham, cheese and tomato they had left. She doesn't eat ham or tomato and then we had to deal with a tantrum because she had to wait even longer for her food. They charged us for coffee they never brought.
All in all, another horrible experience and would not recommend this place or bother to return!

Service left a lot to be desired, often ignored by waitress. tables and chairs (outside) were dirty.

Food was ok, portions are small and hidden ingredients that were not listed on the menu.

Venue was noisy and felt a bit cramped with insects crawling on the tables.

Ginkgo is one of my favourite places to go to for a delicious breakfast, wholesome lunch or decadent afternoon tea. It is a place one can go to on one's own to spend some undisturbed alone time, or to meet a friend for catch-up time, or to enjoy family time in the garden setting. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service is friendly, if rather slow and disorganised at times, and the menu is imaginative and appealing. The owner is passionate about cooking and is always willing to try something new. The menu also changes seasonally, but always there is a consistent regard for top quality ingredients, deliciously cooked and presented.
