lies a pristine property with delightful touches of luxury and glamour. Not stuffy nor pretentious, very comfortable and relaxing. The staff is first rate, wanting to please but not in your way.
Whether it is breakfast or dinner (with accompanying piano player), the warming fireplaces, joyful waitstaff and flavorful entrees will surely delight.

This was our second stay at this hotel before a safari. What a beautiful hotel. The decor, service, restaurant and spa are top notch. We had guests for lunch and it was lovely. I made sure I took advantage of the gift shop...just beautiful items. There is a reason this property is number one. If you are in the area don’t miss this hotel. It is so beautiful and relaxing.

From the moment you arrive at The Residence, you are treated like royalty. The attention to detail is incredible, the food, decor, and service is first class. A bonus is the suites with a private jacuzzi to relax and unwind. The Spa is beautiful and peaceful and the staff is friendly and helpful. Absolutely everything is done to accommodate each guest's specific needs to ensure that the stay is memorable. The hotel is clean, the breakfast has a delicious and wide variety and Piano player in the dining room in the evening just adds that little extra to an already incredible experience. I would highly recommend staying here when you visit Johannesburg, the only disappointing thing is checking out.

The Residence is an unusual and gorgeous hotel, three former private homes linked together with multiple public spaces, pools, gardens and fountains. The opulent décor, of the more-is-more school, is spectacular. Our two-room deluxe suite was large, comfortable and well laid-out.

Dining at the Residence is a delight. When we asked what time meals were served, the staff answered: whenever you want. Tables are available in a variety of settings, both indoor and outdoor. We ate both lunch and dinner there, and both times the food was superb. At dinner a gifted pianist played, and a blazing fireplace added warmth.

We used the Residence as a one-night rest stop between our lengthy international flights and our safari camp destinations, but it really deserves more. The hotel is about a 45-minute drive from the Tambo Airport.

We stayed two nights at the beginning of our Zimbabwe/Zambia safari trip and one post-safari night two weeks later. It was an incredible experience from the airport pickup to the last farewell. Our room was ready for check in upon our arrival in the morning (such a pleasant surprise!) The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious with so many different offerings that everyone should be pleased. We used their laundry service and found it to be fair priced. We enjoyed their cozy bar with live piano music in the background every evening. Our last night night at the Residence Hotel, they graciously upgraded us to suites (Wow!) and offered us a late check-out since our plane did not leave until the evening. This kind of service and concern is above and beyond what we have ever experienced! If we are ever back in Johannesburg, you can count of us visiting this wonderful hotel again.

We stayed here for one night during 2018 on our way back from Botswana and Victoria Falls. The experience the hotel gave us was so exceptional last year that we decided to come again this year, spend a longer time with them and visit their game reserve, Camp Ndlovu in the Welgevonden game reserve, Waterberg Mountains.
We had a mixture of nights at The Residence - 2 nights in Joburg, then 3 nights at the Camp and then back for 2 nights; before leaving for Mauritius; then back again to Joburg for 1 night.
All the staff here are wonderful and nothing is too much trouble. They look after you exceptionally well.
The hotel is really relaxing and upon arrival you ‘instantly melt away’ as one guest told me. It’s true - you do instantly relax, you sleep (wonderful bedding) and eat well.
Whilst there, The Residence team organised a tour around Soweto and for my husband to play golf at both Killarney GC and Houghton GC. Both games he thoroughly enjoyed.
Whilst he was golfing, I went into the Spa and had a wonderful relaxing time and one of the best facials ever.
The front desk will do their utmost to organise whatever you’d like to do. You just need to ask.
Once you have stayed here it will be difficult not to come back and experience more of the wonderful hospitality that The Residence has to offer.
