We did the half day Soweto Cycle Tour. It was brilliant. Riding a bike around the township is a great way to explore it. The guides were good and gave you a lot of interesting information. The people are friendly and the children love you being there. It is not dangerous in anyway and we felt very safe at all times.
The bikes are little old but you don't ride that far and there are plenty of stops along the route. We had some local beer and meat and one of the small 'bars'. We also bumped into Winnie Mandella.
When we returned to the backpacker hostel we were given a really tasty lunch and drink all included with the price. The transfers from there to are hotel were efficient and on time.
This is the best way to see Soweto and I would strongly recommend it. It was easily the best thing we did in Johannesburg.
