We've been away for a couple of months, so I'm not even sure if Il Tartufo is still there, but if not, it's a shame. I've eaten there a number of times, and always had a good meal and good service. However, it's never been terribly full when we've been there, and I cannot understand why. I think it may be its location, tucked away on a quiet forecourt on Jan Smuts Avenue. I hope it is still there and survives, because we found it a valuable addition to our neighbourhood. The thing about Joburg is you have to have a place that "catches on" and gets a good name. Then it will be bursting at the seams all the time and booking will be essential. This is all good and well, but there are other places out there that deserve to catch on but sadly don't. This is one of them. Try it.
