Summer Garden Guest House
Ranked #2 of 40 Benoni B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 16, 2012

We stayed at summer garden for 4 days. The room was very clean and quite spacious, the breakfast was good.
The location is very good very close to the main road and there's a shopping mall with restaurant just across the road.
A very nice garden.

The B&B lives up to its name...it has a lovely large garden...but that's not what you really want to hear about.
The room was clean, neat, and with welcoming décor. There were also complimentary toiletries, in-room coffee and tea options with kettle, crockery, cutlery, mini-bar fridge, and microwave, as well as air conditioning.

The day manager (actually I'm not sure of her title, but she made things happen), Esmeralda, was super-helpful; she was always at the end of my cell-phone as I got lost driving at night through Johannesburg, waiting up for me as it got later and later into the night. The next morning, she had made breakfast before she had to run an errand, so it was waiting for me when I woke.

Unfortunately the B&B was full on my second night in Jhb, and they put me up in self-catering accommodation that they also own.

If asked to suggest a few things to be 'tweaked', I'd say the following: The 'on' light switch of the aircon unit is really very bright...it lights up the room with a green hue at night - I would suggest a blob of Prestik be put over it; I slept with a shirt over my eyes...but it's possible that the light wouldn't bother others.
The sounds from the fridge are a little intrusive too as the thermostat switches it on and off, but the combination of the light moving air sound of the airon, and being exhausted, it didn't wake me once I'd fallen asleep.
The Bathroom door kept drifting closed - a doorstop would be handy.
Lastly, I'd ask more pavers to be added outside the external door of the room I was in. What is very appealing about the rooms is that each is accessible from outside as well as from within the house. However, the pavers led to the room next to mine and the narrow pathway against the house had plant pots on it and couldn't be used for walking on. This was a noticeable inconvenience because the Summer rain showers had made the red sand under the grass become muddy and I couldn't help but get red mud on my shoes, and walk it into the room.
But these are all minor things...I'd definitely stay here again - good price and with everything one needs for a night or two's stay; and not far from O.R. Thambo airport.

Room Tip: I liked the location of the room I was given (I can't remember the number)...it is furtherest fr...
