“Don't go there”
Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

Really. Don't go there. The restaurant has closed and is now a fast food joint in one of the malls. A shame that Bloemfontein has lost its only Indian restaurant.

“Disappointing evening”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

On arrival at the Windmill Casino we decided to enjoy an evening meal at The Raj so we popped in, liked what we saw, and made a table reservation for later that evening. On arrival we were seated at our table of choice and presented with the menu...so far so good...when we asked to see the wine list we were informed that they were not able to serve alcohol as their liquor licence had expired!!! We asked why we were not informed at the time of booking to which all they could offer was an apology for the 'oversight' - when we asked why other patrons had wine on their table we were told that they had brought it themselves as they had been informed about the licence fiasco. Despite this let-down we decided to stay for the meal....big mistake...an over-sized plate made the under-sized portion of Prawn Curry and rice look somewhat 'lost' the food lacked flavour and definitely no points for presentation, none of the traditional accompaniments to a curry were offered eg. Sambols. The young man who presented himself as the "Manager" was completely out of his depth and appeared flustered and embarrassed. This evening was part of my husband's 70th Birthday celebration weekend and was a complete disaster.

“Terrible service!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Went to the counter to order, when the woman on the other side just bluntly asked "are you gonna order?" when i said yes, she just responded to say "we are closed", so they won't see me again.

“Best of The Raj”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

glad to have spotted this through trip advisor, this was the best meal we have had whilst in south Africa as well as the UK - the reason? firstly the samosa starter, with lovely fresh salad and dip, followed by chicken tikka and butter chicken, this is the most flavoursome and succulent chicken ever, accompanied with the lightest ever rice and yummy garlic nan all for a reasonable price tag, also very pleasant staff.

“India in the Heart of South Africa”

If you are a lover of Indian Couzine this is a must to visit. The smell welcoming you while approaching the Restaurant takes you back to where the spices comes from.
