The Holiday Inn, across the street from the Walter Sisulu university in Mthatha is below average on a world standard, yet would be above average when compared to the other options in Mthatha. The boilers weren't working when I was there, so no hot water but has since been fixed. Staff are very friendly and good, food is good and hotel is spotlessly clean. If I have to stay in Mthatha again, this will be first place I will go.

I spent a night at this hotel on my way from Port Elizabeth to Durban. Strategically located for a stopover, as I would not recommend driving this road at night due to the number of stray animals wondering this scenic highway.
Clean hotel, in line with Garden Court standards, value for money and adequate breakfast.

stayed here overnight on our way to Margate, typical business hotel, room clean, but not very friendly except for one little lady who was clearing the tables at breakfast.

There are not many places to stay in Mthatha. We stayed here for four nights. The rooms were plain and uninspiring, the way they are at this type of boring chain hotel. Clean enough. Lobby was nice but hallway a little dingy.

The best thing was the complimentary in-room tea and coffee service, which also included hot chocolate, plus cookies baked by ladies from the Khayelitsha township near Cape Town.

The wireless Internet at the hotel did not work and this was frustrating. There were computers available in the business centre but we did not try them - they were ridiculously overpriced.

The in-room TV had a decent range of channels, with the weird exception of no BBC or CNN - just Sky News and South African news channels.

The buffet breakfast was fine, but the buffet dinner was seriously overpriced (although the service was attentive and the hostess was friendly).

The hotel is located on the edge of town, near the university and a broad selection of gas stations and attached fast-food joints.
