Owner description: This picturesque suspension bridge is on one of the shorter hikes of this river gorge.

If you only go there just because of the bridge that the detour from the N2 plus the costs will most likely not be worth it. But you come to a very nice rocky shore with interesting geological formations, lots of dassies have a short walk along the river into the trees (look out for birds) and on the other side of the bridge there is the way up on the top of the cliff which gives some fabulous views.

The way up is pretty intensive, only start this if you thing of yourself as moderately fit and have water and sunprotection. You will be rewarded by very nice views all around.

To get to this place, you need to drive into Tsitsikamma National Park, park you car and then walk for about 2-3 km on a path along the ocean. The walk is very nice, but has quite a few steps, and the view is great when you get a big higher up. There are actually three bridges at the end of the path, one over the river and then two along it. Really nice!

The only negative thing is about the parking. You park along a narrow road, there is no lot or open space, so then you have to somehow turn around on the road and then drive back along the road you came from when you leave. The park's parking attendants show you where to park and try to help you when you park or leave.

although entrance to the park is marred by a very bureaucratic entry system including filling in forms for every visitor, the wait is well worthwhile. (As a visitor from the UK our entrance fee was only R80 half there price of other international visitors! There are a good number of walks which are well signposted as well as adequate toilet facilities, a restaurant and shop. There are also some beautiful beaches where you can hire canoes or go on a guided power boat tour at very reasonable prices. The walk across the suspension bridge and then on to look out point is quite tiring as it includes a climb of over 300m BUT well worthwhile.
A great place to spend the whole day.

It's really great and beautiful place. Stunning nature. There is restaurant near Stormriver mouth where you can enjoy breakfast/lunch/dinner overlooking river mouth and sea. There are several hiking trails going through really beautiful places. We spent there 2 days only but they were amazing.

This year we combined a trip to Storms River with the Tsitsikamma Segway tours, which I would recommend. The Storms River area is beautiful and wild, with crazy surf pounding along the coastline, and hikes to waterfalls, the 5 day Otter trail to Nature's Valley - or the half hour hike to the Storms River suspension bridge. There is a sandy beach with a floating platform for swimming and a kayak rental place. We usually take the short hike to the bridges, and look out for Dassies along the way - they're rather sweet rodent like animals which live on the rocks. There is a restaurant which serves reasonable food, a gift shop, and cabins for rent along the coastline, which are always full whenever we're there. The entrance fee to the park may not be cheap, but as we usually spend the day, it doesn't feel extortionate. Lots to see, loads to explore…great family day out.
