The Sands at St Francis

I have stayed in many hotels all over the world, (quite a few of them before the advent of Trip advisor), but of them all the Sands is one of my favourite favourites.

Perfectly situated on a rise looking over the bay, "a stones throw from the ocean" has never been truer. you can hear the ocean rolling from your bed and smell the crisp sea air. Yet you can walk to the village with out breaking a sweat.

There were times when we did wonder if it was staffed by fairies as everything appeared effortless. Though at the same time GM Heidi and her staff clearly were putting in every effort to make our stay as fantastic as possible with the chef customising our dinner menu's. All in all it was as close to perfection as any hotel stay could get.

We stayed here for 2 nights recently. Amazing views right on the beach, delicious breakfasts and nice attention to detail. Our only criticisms are that we barely had dstv for our stay as it wasn't working, despite the staffs attempts. And the snacks provided in the rooms had expiry dates for January 2014. We enjoyed our stay.

The Sands is well located to walk into the town of St Francis and to drive to Cape St Francis. Sadly we got up too late to see the dolphins that were swimming in the bay just in front of the guest house. The food is excellent thanks to chef Gerhardt - who very kindly gave us "muffins to go" for our onward journey. Our room was very spacious and had everything we could possibly need, apart from an adaptor for the hairdryer which Roland very quickly sourced for us. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for him! Even when a local dog followed us back to the guest house following a beach walk and snuck into the gardens, he contacted the owner who came to collect it. Many other managers might have considered it a nuisance - he dealt with it with such good grace and humour our embarrassment was quickly resolved.

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views

A great place to stay. Right on the shoreline with steps down to the sandy beach. Great staff, good food and nothing was too much trouble. One night the restaurant was closed so we were booked into an Italian restaurant in the canal area. The manager came to pick us up and dropped us off after our meal which was excellent, and extremely good value for money. Highly recommended and will go back whenever we are in the vicinity.

Room Tip: Room 4 is at the right hand end of the garden the best room to stay in.

Just returned for South Africa. Had a wonderful two nights at The Sands.
We were given the honeymoon suite even though we've been married for nearly 40 years!
Location was superb (steps lead down to the Indian Ocean) as was both the food and service. Nothing was too much trouble. Fish was very freshly sourced - we met up with the chef buying straight off the boats from the overnight catch! John and Veronica Perry.

Great views, very comfortable bedrooms and friendly, helpful staff.
Thank you to Heidi and team, we had a wonderful stay. Heidi was also extremely helpful with local knowledge of recommended restaurants and "what to do" in the area.
We will definitely be returning. - The Palmer Family

Room Tip: Ground floor sea facing - unbelievable!

We had a wonderful time staying at The Sands for our last night in South Africa. I called and booked late the night before we wanted to stay and everyone was very helpful.
We where made to feel very welcome and given details of good places to see locally. We arrived early which wasn't a problem and we where given a late check out which meant that we could enjoy the beach and have a relaxing breakfast.
The room was lovely and we had excellent views of the ocean.
All in all The Sands was one of the best places we stayed at during our holiday to SA.
