“A Must”

Navaho Code Talkers Exhibit
Ranked #1 of 7 things to do in Kayenta
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed November 17, 2012

This free exhibit houses some amazing artifacts from World War II and is most informative about a heroic group of Navajos who saved many lives and helped turn the tide during the war for the US. It also gives insights to native life of the Navajos -- and all for free!

Very worthwhile visiting to gain appreciation of the Navajo's contribution to our military. I recommend this to anyone passing through Kayenta.

Great piece of American history, The main exhibit is at the Burger King but monies are being raised for a permanent Code Talkers Museum. You can hear a presentation by one of the 35 remaining men who served the U.S. Marines as Navajo Code Talkers at the Hampton Inn several mornings a week. Check with the hotel for schedule. Fascinating and very educational presentation by Mr. Pete McDonald.

This 85-year-old man gave an extremely person story of how he came to be picked by the Marines, his training, how the code was developed, and some of the hardships they endured. It was very moving to meet this Marine. He was also very gracious to all.

Stopped off at the Burger King for lunch (on way to Momument Valley) and spent a good amount of time looking at the exhibit, since its free whilst you eat was suitably entertained by it.
