Forest Hall is a real retreat for us when in Port Elizabeth. Not only are James and Hilary accommodating and caring, but their B&B envelopes one with such a sense of peace, beauty and calm. Whether you are a weary business traveler, a family, or even on your own for some R&R, Forest Hall is sure to meet every need.

I returned to Forest Hall in February 2012, looking for peace and tranquillity, which is exactly what this delightful guest house offers. I noticed that there were a few changes to the property which the owners, James and Hilary had carefully thought out. These remain in keeping with the ethos of the property. The rooms are tastefully furnished with careful thought to all the needs of a traveller.
The owners will gladly go out of their way to help with any requests. I know I need look no further for anywhere to stay when next in Port Elizabeth.

My husband and I choose to stay in the first-rate Forest Hall Guest House whenever we visit P.E. as it simply never disappoints. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated and they offer all the comforts a traveller could wish for. The rooms look onto a magnificent mature garden that gives the property a rare tranquillity. The hosts are warm, gracious and attentive and willing to meet one's every need. The breakfast room is charming, the breakfasts are varied and substantial and the staff is polite and discreet. We will be back!

I have stayed at Forest Hall many times since 2007 and it is always a pleasure to return. I have stayed in virtually all their rooms which are individual and full of character, but each well appointed and extremely comfortable. The breakfast is sumptuous and healthy. Your hosts James and Hilary are delightful and nothing is too much trouble. The location is ideal, in an upmarket neighborhood, with easy access to airport, town and onward destinations. I tried a few other places before I found Forest Hall, but have not looked back!

We visited Forest Hall as a family for one night in June. We did not get the room that was promied to us upon making the reservation as well as which was indicated on the invoice. I had a huge problem with this because driving as far as we did you want to get what you were promised via e-mail and web. We felt as though we were squeezed into a tiny room that was actually more for three people than 4. In the promised room the kids would have had a sleeper couch whereas they now had to sleep one on a single bed and the other squashed on a mattress on the floor (in winter). We had no aircon or heater but the double bed had an electric blanket. The kids had nothing and we had to get our own blankets from the car to ensure they were warm. The sherry in the room was a nice touch and the room was clean and tidy. The garden looked nothing like the web pics (but to be fair it was winter). It was ok but nothing special. Perhaps not for families??? We decided though to just keep quite sleep the night and leave early. For us not worth it though....

I believe this review to be unfair. The family arrived at least two hours before our listed check-in time, I personally welcomed them to our Guest House and showed them to their room, which was fortunately ready. This was not the room that they had booked but the room I gave them is in fact bigger (6mX5m with a bathroom size of 6mx2.5m) with the same facilities and outlook on to our garden. A bed and a matress were provided for the children(age 5 and 6), made up with sheets, pillows and duvets. Two additional double-bed blankets and two hotwater bottles were in the room-I informed them of this on check in. The room has a visible and easily accessible wall-mounted heater.
I chatted to the family, advised them on some of the city's highlights and suitable family restaurants. I personally took their breakfast orders and served them, and at no stage during any of these engagements did they voice any grievances-there were was no indication from them at any time that they were dissatisfied.
We welcome children at Forest Hall and have a regular flow of parents and their children staying with us. Many families with children of all ages return to visit our guesthouse.
As mentioned by the guest, our garden is currently a winter one with lots of fallen leaves that are regularly swept up by our staff.I recall they visited Forest Hall on a rather grey, rainy and windy Port Elizabeth day after experiencing a severe storm the previous night -our garden has won many awards over the years and we are proud of its English Country theme.
Thank you
James Bolton

We stayed at Forest Hall for two nights. We were looking for a comfortable, relaxed oasis in which to rest up at the end of our trip to South Africa before our long journery home. We were delighted to find everything we needed at Forest Hall.

The rooms are large, welcoming, warm and tastfully decorated. Our room looked out onto well established gardens and the accomodation is in a quiet residential suburb. Perfect for a relaxing time and Forest Hall itself has amble secured parking and is only a short drive into PE and the waterfront. Breakfast was wholesome, fresh and plentiful. James is an attentive host and his two dogs are delightful.

Every time we need to visit PE we stay at Forest Hall and every time we come away feeling totally relaxed, rejuvenated and spoilt! The rooms are large, roomy, bright and spotlessly clean. We particularly love the well established gardens with enormous trees filled with a huge variety of birds, waking up in the mornings to the sound of birds is magical. Thank you once again for a wonderful stay - we are looking forward to our next trip!
