“Hippo vs lions”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Schotia has a fine selection of predators and prey... AND those in between... The hippos... Hippos look the same, so Schotia ended up with to female hippos. But they're all girl power!

Schotia is not afraid of mixing a powerful group of 12 lions with the rest of the food chain, so we had the chance to see well fed lions after a succesful hunt AND stupid lions (the same) trying to convert 4 tonnes of hippo into a night snack (bad idea!)

All power to the hippos!!!!!! Go visit

Note: You can make a perfect combination day tour with Addo to see the huge herds of elephants as well.

“One of the best things we did in SA”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

One word sums up our experience in Schotia....unforgettable! From our guides Nic and Etienne to the great friends we met to the amazing up close and personal encounters with wild animals, this was an experience both my fiancé and I will treasure. We got lucky as we witnessed a pride of lions after a kill and got about 10 feet away as they fed on their warthog....and then out came the male lion who showed them who's boss and took it all for himself, it was a real adrenaline rush seeing this do close! We captured amazing videos and photos which we look at daily! We would highly recommend, the experience from start to finish was brilliant, even the kudu stew!

“A fantastic experience”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

About a month late but I just had to add my comments. From the moment we arrived we were well looked after: nothing was too much. Everything was done with a personal, family feel. Our Ranger was Nickie who, as well as knowing his subject very well, had a great sense of humour - always dangling the prospect of seeing the rhinos. The experience was very much 'in the wild' and was done in such a way that you felt very close to it all without being overly intrusive. We did the afternoon drive, tea and early evening drive followed by the evening meal in the Lapa. Then to bed in the Giraffe room! Up for the early morning drive to see the lions again followed by breakfast and the trip to Addo. This has been rated as excellent because that's exactly what it was. I have no hesitation in recommending this experience!

“Exciting and Rich Experience”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

A multi-generation family with a rich south african history were proud to share with us their passion of african wildlife. We took the Tooth and Claw tour. Our guide was exceptional. She had so many stories, facts, and experiences to share with us. We had afternoon tea and south african bread at the family house with their horses and fresh honey combs right from the hive! After we headed out to the reserve to see more animals and finished at an enclosed hut in the reserve where we ate an amazing meal around fireplaces and torches. The ride back allowed us to watch the lions hunt and watch their behavior at night. Overall, this is an experience you won't regret.

“Great all-round experience.”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Being in the travel industry, I recently decided to book my clients in at Schotia game reserve, having always somehow having overlooked it in the past in favour of the bigger reserves. I always gauge a place/venue/experience by my clients feedback and on this occasion was very pleasantly suprised by everyones feedback - "really made our trip to SA so worthwhile", "incredible", "loved the professionalism and friendlines of our ranger, 'Ettienne'". These positive comments and my personal experience at Schotia definitely assures that I will be back. Although it obviously cannot compare to Kruger regarding size and animal diversity, it really is a nice condensed version of what the African bush experience is all about. It is also realy affordable compared to many other reserves an one can tell that the owners have done their best to ensure a quality experience at a reasonable rate.
