Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Lush coastal forest and grassland is home to vast herds of African game, including White Rhino, Buffalo, Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, Nyala, Bontebok, Lechwe and many more species. All the animals roam freely, unrestricted in natural surroundings. This owner operated animal friendly park, where no hunting or other disturbance of the game is permitted, means that you always get close up views and great photo opportunities. Take a drive in your own vehicle through the park on the well-maintained roads and enjoy viewing the game in any weather conditions from the comfort of your car. For those really close encounters, choose the 2 hour guided tour in an open Landrover with a professional guide providing you with interesting information on the animals and the historical background to the area.

You won't be greeted with a martini but this little gem is laid-back game viewing that doesn't cost the earth. We had a lovely day out with our British guests who really enjoyed themselves. We spotted nearly all of the animals on our leaflet given to us at the front gate and managed to get some amazing pictures.

It was a baking hot day so the lovely cool cafe was a welcomed break halfway through our drive. The meals won't blow you away but the drinks are ice-cold and the service is great.

If you have the time and a spare R100 you could even venture into the cheetah enclosure and give one a pat. Obviously supervised by one of the trained members of staff. You will find that just behind the cafe. Ask a staff member, sign a form and off you go. Makes for fab photos.

You can spend a lot of money in South Africa if you are not careful. From the outrageous tolls charging seemingly random amounts of money form R35 to R50 all the way home to the Airport on the N2/N3 and ONLY SA cards accepted you'll need to save some cash if you;re driving about on the main highways. That's why every now and again to see something that is genuinely good value, like KK GP is a rarer site in the developing South Africa. Some of the bugger parks charged differently if you are a resident or not so might be worth taking a "Saffe"r along if you can get one :)

Anyway, we saw lots of animals closer than other parks, but it was a short trip but good for younger travellers as the game was a bit more accessible in addition to some caged up big cats in a secure area half way around where you can stop for a cool drink etc... There's also a walk way for monkeys if you cross the rope bridge.

Good Value

This was a great way to spend an afternoon. Not too far to travel from our hotel. Great for our grandchildren as it only took a couple of hours to drive round in open top jeep with a ranger telling us the names of all the animals we saw.

What a jewel in the city limits of Port Elizabeth! This nature preserve, oddly enough directly adjacent to the Kragga Golf Course, offers the visitor a very reasonably priced fun-filled morning, afternoon, or evening visit. The property is small enough to traverse in a 2-3 our leisurely drive, stopping to view a wide variety of game which are used to the rumble of autos moving slowly past them. What's different from other game reserves, the animals in Kragga Kamma are accustomed to the throng of visitors. We experienced giraffe, bok, and zebra not just sauntering along the dirt roads, but also taking their time to feed, scratch, and address the needs of mother nature without regard to our presence. The park staff are dedicated to maintaining an environment that is conducive to all of their animals, from the grazers to the carnivores. We were delighted in watching the cheetahs taking their afternoon naps, and felt their enclosure was well designed to allow for the visitors maximum enjoyment and the animals well being considered to heart. With visitors planning to come to the Wild Coast in the future, we expect to return to Kragga Kamma with them because of the facility's visitor friendly construction and fair entrance cost. The afternoon when we were there, we were able to see at least 80% of the available diversity with ease. Where were those elusive vervet monkeys? Sleeping somewhere in the forest on a very warm day. Otherwise, the only fauna we missed were those nocturnal species that were the smart ones out of the day's heat. Highly recommended.
