“Old faithful”
Reviewed October 3, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is an old timer dating back to 1920. From what I am told it is still in the family.
It is a three star hotel, but the rooms are clean and neat even though old in style.
The dinners are buffet style and limited but quite tasty.
The rooms facing the main road are noisy especially on weekends.
All in all....a nice hotel to stay in if passing through.

We took advantage of a well priced weekend special recently to spend the weekend in Port Elizabeth. Our first impressions were favourable after an exceptionally friendly and helpful telephone conversation with Jackie who organised a sea facing flatlet for our family for the weekend.
On arrival, we found a well appointed two roomed flat and very friendly and attentive staff.
The hotel was built around the turn of last century and has a lot of charm.
Breakfast is substantial and offers an excellent range of good breakfast fare.
We spent 2 days relaxing without a care in the world and were unable to fault our accommodation or service we received.
Without hesitation I would recommend this hotel to anyone contemplating a visit to Port Elizabeth.

Room Tip: Try to get a sea facing room - even with some traffic noise it is worth it if you can, The weekend s...

Stayed here one night in September2013. This hotel is strictly for people on a small budget. Very old hotel with accompanying smells and old furnishings. Bathrooms don't seem to have been revamped since the sixties. Breakfast was average. Room was reasonable size but bed was old and creaky.
The only thing going for this hotel is the location. Near beaches restaurants and entertainment.

Enjoyed the stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms is comfortable and spacious. Being able to have supper at the hotel is convenient. Only a buffet option is offered unfortunately. Good value for money accommodation. Reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Front rooms offer a sea view, more noisy due to traffic

In the middle of January 2013 we were invited by friends to join them for Sunday lunch at the Humewood Hotel. Right on the beach front we enjoyed a quite drink in their lounge overlooking the beach front. At the designated time we moved through into the diningroom where we enjoyed a top class meal, choosing from - salad, cold meats and fish starters, roast leg of lamb and beef, roast chicken, oxtail, roast potatoes and a variety of vegetables and then the sweets, too many to name, a sweet junkies dream, cheese and biscuits and tea/coffee.
After this meal we vowed not to eat again until at least Tuesday of the next week. The meal was self-service but at no time was there ever more than two diners in the queue, and waiters were always present and ready to assist. A most enjoyable meal and atmosphere.
