I have always enjoyed great food and hospitality at this iconic restaurant but tmy last meal there was very poor. We were quite a large corporate party and the service was v ery poor. One of the ladies at our table did not have a spoon to eat her soup with and when she requested the waiter bring her one he just handed it to her with his bare hands, no serviette or on a plate. The waitress also had a huge tear in her VERY worn top and her ability to bring drinks etc was very poor. It seemed as though their waiters had no training. The toilets were not clean and the toilet seat in the ladies bathroom was broken. The meat was cold and the fish had no real taste. I was very disappointed and upset that this once gorgeous restaurant delivered such a poor show

Good food & good atmosphere, live music an added bonus. Refurbish beautiful old house, allowing us to have a private room for a special family celebration

Don't be fooled by the outside appearance of this place. Not that the yard is shabby. It just looks like someone's house, as in a normal suburban family enclave. I felt under-dressed in my T-shirt and jeans as we walked in. Inside is a piano (in the middle of one of the larger wings), white linen table cloths and a superb menu. Luckily since we were inches from the piano, no one was tinkling away at it. Instead there was salon music and light classics in the background. Everything about the place was not intrusive. There are main meal and desert combinations, as well as starter and main meal combinations. The prices were terribly reasonable for the kind of menu this was (extensive). The decor is understated and mature, and the restaurant unfolds in different directions since it is used to be a house. The steel staircase in the middle of the main dining room tells many stories. Overall a lovely place, able to keep teenagers calm for one meal. The waitresses were very warm, clued-up and polite.

The lunchtime special menu is good value for money, with a choice of 2 courses, either starter and mains or mains and dessert or all 3 courses for R100. Starters limited to either soup or seafood cocktail, and a large choice for main course. The portions are smaller that the evening meals, but as part of a 2 course meal, perfectly adequate. The food is well cooked and very nicely presented, and the service is always very good. There is also a good selection of wines. The only negative is the "stuffy" / formal atmosphere that just does not lend itself to the more casual lunch time fare. We have been visited Old Austria for many years now and I don't think the menu has ever changed! A bit boring now - time for a change please Peter.

Once again awesome food, awesome service and a glorious setting. The service was professional and the everything just came together. The Austrian dishes as usual were above par and ample. The wine list is extensive and well priced. Lovely piano music offers that bit extra. This perennial favourite never fails to impress.
