“Valentine's disaster”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

I booked a special evening based on the reviews on trip advisor. Based on my experience these reviews must be false or the Chef was on holiday. Our first choice of starter from this special evening was unavailable. We then had a choice of cold cucumber soup or seared tuna. We chose the seared tuna but it turned out to have been seared for some considerable time as it was solid. The dish was drizzled with balsamic but remained very dry and almost inedible. For our main course we both chose the slow cooked Greek style lamb shanks that were tasty.
For dessert I chose Kiss on ice which was described as a secret kept but a traditional kiss met. Elegant chocolate coated ice cream filled with glazed cherries. Mine was certainly a surprise as it had no cherries despite a thorough search having broken through the heavy chocolate case that was far from elegant.
The overall experience was terrible and I would anyone to avoid. The only small consolation was that the wine was made complimentary when the staff became aware of the problems. We are in PE for another two nights and if this restaurant is rated the third best I think we are unlikely to ever return

“Spent the night in the B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014 via mobile

The hotel is elegant in its own way and in a marvelous setting. The staff was most helpful. Drinks on the porch or in one of the two "parlors" was like stepping back in time. Food was outstanding. When I get back to RSA, I will try to go back.

“Dreaming of a Hacklewood Christmas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

My 84 year old dad says this was the best meal out that he has ever eaten! What a treat this was. The flavours were sublime! I am a bit of a foodie and really enjoy experiencing good food and new flavour combinations. Well my tastebuds are still doing cartwheels.
The staff are attentive and make one feel as though you are dining with friends. Christmas lunch will never be the same again. This was a 5 star experience all the way.
Many thanks to Charlene and her staff for the personalized treatment. You made our Christmas lunch unforgettable.

“High tea heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

I arranged a Saturday high tea at Hacklewood Hill as a celebratory occasion for my wife's birthday since this is something which she always wished to do. Charlene and the staff were very friendly and accommodating and no special request was overlooked, from the crème brule filled cupcakes to the special care which was taken for my wife's nut and seed allergy.

The eats were delicious to say the very least. Tray upon tray was brought out, which meant that the afternoon celebration was never short on any snacks to nibble on while enjoying the lavish setting. We will surely return to savour one of their renowned restaurant meals.

Hacklewood Hill is set in a quiet suburb on extensive grounds which are surrounded with many trees which thus means one does not feel like you are in the middle of a metropolitan city listening to birds and fountains. We defintely highly recommend Hacklewood Hill!
