This was a tough review for us, while 3 stars does seem a little harsh for a guest house that can boast lovely friendly staff, with a beautiful setting over Plettenberg Bay and within easy reach of the main steet, we felt the overall score was justified. Ocean Watch was by far the most expensive guest house we stayed in over the two weeks of our Honeymoon in South Africa and we really feel that we didn't get value for money, when compared to the other wonderful places we stayed in.
While our room had lovely views, it was small, tired, had no shower, the plumbing was dodgy and made funny noises, the toilet seat was cracked, the carpet was worn in places and even the french sliding doors seemed a old and slightly rusty as though they'd been there for a while. If we hadn’t of paid top dollar for the room, you could’ve overlooked these problems.
On arrival as the guest house was quiet we were very kindly allowed to choose our room on the top floor, and wandering through all of them, they all just seem a little tired.
While the communal areas were well appointed and airy, it was the little things like at breakfast, while there was a lovely spread, the plastic menus were dirty, sticky and falling apart. We walked away thinking that while Judy and her gang were very lovely and charming, it was as if they were looking at the big picture and were ignoring the detail. Other things like Judy knew we had to leave promptly on the day of check out and when we were ready to leave, she had gone off site. Ok we didn’t have to wait long for her to come back, but again we just felt it wasn’t very professional.
While we certainly don’t enjoy giving out bad reviews, overall we just felt that you were paying top dollar for a guest house that did not provide value for money.
