We recently used some expiring time-share points (again) for a weeks stay at the Beacon Isle hotel. It is a very well organised and popular time-share resort where regular visitors are greeted like long lost friends and many guests know each other from visiting the resort year after year at the same time.
We could not fault the resort in any way. Everything is excellently maintained and runs like a well oiled machine. It is essentially a hotel converted to a time share resort and although some of the units are larger, ours was a hotel room size. However everything you need is there and with the wonderful views the rooms are lovely. Despite the size we didn't feel claustrophobic at all. There is zero self catering but a small bar fridge enables one to keep a few essentials for nibbles (snacks and drinks) in the unit.
The restaurants, grounds, lounges and other facilities are extremely well run and maintained and I don't think there is anything you could wish for that you wouldn't find there. We are not people who take part in organised activities but these are all available and for singles or people who enjoy this type of activity this would be a real plus. No wonder so many regulars know one another.
The spectacular setting means that if you are looking for a wonderful holiday experience with a wonderful beach right on your doorstep you have hit the jackpot!

I stayed here for 3 nights this past February with my wife.
The location is spectacular, right on the beach with the Indian ocean at the front of the hotel. I understand it is common to be able to watch whales right from the hotel property, although none were there during our stay.

There are good restaurants within a short walk. The town centre, which is a bit longer walk or short drive has many unique shopping and dining experiences.

The only drawback is that the rooms lack air conditioning, so they can get pretty hot.

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: try to book an ocean side room

Beacon bay is one on the best family friendly resorts in South Africa. There is a lovely heated indoor pool (and an outdoor pool) which is great for the kids - not to mention the Kids club, rather small but has interesting activities for the kids. We were lucky enough to be there during on the staff show evenings which was hilarious. The shops inside are abit pricy but it is a short drive to the shopping centres. The resort also arranges outings for guests, e.g. hiking, shell picking, horse riding. The restaurants have exquisite meals and the staff do go out of their way to make everyone comfortable. I would highly recommend this resort for the whole family bearing in mind that there are also many attractions in the Knysna and Plettenberg area.

Room Tip: The suites facing the pool are lovely.

Just got back from a week in Plett. Absolutely fantastic weather the whole week. Blue, sunny skies every day. We were really lucky. The hotel was renovated a year or so ago and is looking pretty chic. Service is still top notch. Saw humpback whales and dolphins from our room (quite fortunate for this time of year). Took lots of walks along Robberg beach and chilled out on the hotel lawn.

The wife and I went to the hotel for a week in September 2012. This was my first visit ther, but not my last. a Better location for a hotel cannot be found. Sevice was fantastic, food was fantastic, everything was fantastic. Our early morning walks on the beach was a highlight, and to come back from a walk and have a exelent breakfast.......what more can I say, if you havent been there, GO!! It is a bucket-list destination.

Room Tip: Doest matter, they all have sea views.

This was our first stay at Beacon Island and I was overwelmed by the reception, services and room throughout our stay. Plettenberg Bay offers so much for the adventurous. Our hike round Robberg was very hard but we made it in 5 hours and although we were sore thenext day,the scenery was well worth it. I can truly recommend this resort!

Room Tip: rooms facing the pool and Keurboomstrand and rooms facing the open ocean. On Robberg-side choos from...
