“Dine Above the Divine Beaches of Paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2012

Dine above the Divine Beaches of Paradise.

There are surely no finer surroundings for any restaurant!

Indigo Bay commands a stunning setting and overlooks the wild Robberg Beach and the crashing waves of the Southern Indian Ocean. It is situated in the landmark Beacon Island Hotel on South Africa’s famed Garden Route: a superstructure surrounded on three sides by sea, and occupying pride of place in a picture postcard setting.

Diners enter an architectural masterpiece as they walk through the double-height plate glass doors into the huge foyer of the hotel; with its concentric, open corridors, it is reminiscent of nothing less than a seaside version of Momo’s grand stairway in the Vatican Museum or Frank Lloyd Wright’s internal design for the New York Guggenheim! There is an immediate impression of light and space and of being at sea.

Beyond Reception and to the right lies the Indigo Bay Restaurant overlooking the endless white sands of windswept Robberg. The restaurant is not reserved for hotel guests and should be on the ‘to-do’ list for all travellers along the Garden Route.

Under dynamic leadership, the Indigo Bay Island Diner is a superb Seafood Restaurant and Grillhouse offering a wide range of specialties including Mussels Arrabiata, Seafood Paella, LM Chicken and Karoo Lamb Chops – all at very affordable prices.

This fine-dining restaurant also offers convivial, weekly dinner dances to the accompaniment of live music. (Booking essential.)

The magic of Plettenberg bay resides in its coastal milieu, its tidal energy and the intriguing rocks and caves that have been inhabited since the dawn of time. To find international cuisine in such a setting is an added bonus. Go down to the sea and enjoy a meal and a drink on the rocks at Indigo Bay, surrounded by nautical décor and welcomed with smiles - the timeless waves, behind the huge plate glass windows, will literally break around you.

Plett lies on latitude 34º. This is a special place – check the maps of both hemispheres and you will find some amazing destinations along this line!
