Like us you are probably worried about sharks if you are considering swimming with the seals at Plett. Everyone we spoke to around Plett told us how dangerous it could be. If you look carefully at where this activity takes place, the clarity of the water and the precautions that offshore adventures take then you can see how unlikely it is to see sharks anywhere nearby. We took our 6 and 8 year old on this on a seal swim and can say it was one of the best experiences of their lives. There are hundreds of seals on the penninsula and the pups are so playful - they will nip at your flippers and jump out of the water around you. the RIB stays close, and the helpful guides will get in the water first and check it out. You can swim over to the submerged rocks and stand up if needed. Staff were good with the kids. The equipment they provided was well looked after and good quality (although auto inflating life jackets rather than the huge things they offer would be much more comfortable - pricey though). Snorkelling for the kids was not a problem - obviously some basic swimming skills are necessary but our 6 year old is an average swimmer for her age and didnt struggle. There are floatation aids if necessary.
We felt well looked after and safe. They do make a deal about shark shields - im not convinced about these but i think they are trying to offer extra reassurrance more than anything.
None of the exciting things in life are ever risk free but you have to keep it in proportion!
